Very disjointed on first opening, thought it may have been off. After an hour morphed into a village Burgundy ringer. Pale colour, light with spice & savoury notes, med + acidity, earthy notes, not sweet but with crunchy red fruit.

First stop in Stellenbosch was at Meerlust Wines off R310. The first red wine was their 2017 Pinot Noir. Medium and clear garnet red. Medium intensity on the nose with ripe cherries, white and purple flowers with a touch of twigs. Medium acidity and tannins with a medium minus body. A bit steely on the palate with some unripe cherries, rhubarb and a bit of dustiness. Medium length finish. Drink till 2023.

South African wine tour - Day five (Stellenbosch): Cherry, slight burnt spice, a little chocolate, vanilla, cedar. On the palate it's juicy and spicy. Cherry fruit is more savoury with a little mid palate burr and plain chocolate. Rather nice in a simple way.
