2018 ex-cellar library release. past its prime, but not over the hill, this bottle showed primarily tertiary notes of cedar, leather, and eucalyptus. if i tasted this blind, i would have no chance -- smells and tastes like a classy bordeaux. well balanced palate with lots of acid, this falls a bit short on the finish. cork crumbled during opening (thank you Durand, for saving the day!). drink 'em if you got 'em.

Lyon and Woodward Frenzy (Woodyville): Perhaps the least funky of the Cayuse wines this evening, it has black currant, blackberry, black plum, and wet stone in spades. Mocha, earth, and spice hints over the great structure. This will make 25 years with proper storage.

Decanted for 1.5 hours before service. In the glass, maroon at the rim, fading to reddish-black at the core. On the nose, equal parts cedar, currant, and crushed dark fruit. On the palate, the kind of wine you'd want to throw into a blind tasting of St. Emilion - leather, currants, cedar, skewing less towards austerity and more towards fruit. Nice finish, with silky nearly-resolved tannins. If you haven't opened a bottle of this yet, now is the time. With an SRF filet and potato puree, delightful. Wish I had more!

Deep garnet in color with bricking edges. Nose of Bing Cherries, coco, and hint of leather. Tastes of dark cherries, dark chocolate, and hint of licorice and tobacco. Great fruit for the age, resolved tannins, and lovely balance. Drink now as this has peaked.

From the Cayuse library sale. The fruit has held up well for the vintage. Fun to try an older wine, although it was not as vibrant or exciting as some more recent vintages.

Crimson color with notes of red and black fruit with an underlying herbal quality. Red fruit and herbs on the palate with a nice finish. Develops a chocolate note with air. Guessed CA Cab.

The Blind Drunks monthly tasting (Joe P's): Opaque garnet color. Notes of cherry, raspberry, citrus, vanilla and butter. The butter note takes over and dominates the bouquet. chalky tannins, with a sweet edge. Flavors of dark fruit and spice, with a medium length finish. Cali cab?

Got a free btl of this as a friend ordered it & thot it was damaged. They gave her the 6pack & a refund! Now we get 2 try it!!!!
Had this bout 2months ago & it blew everyone away w/HUGE sweet herbs lush plums some smoke & pure elegance. The mouth feel was amazing! It seriously was so go u didnt want 2 drink it 4 fear of it being gone!!
2nite.....a lil different but still yummy!
Color - nothing out of the ordinary. I know....purple!
Nose - green olives, green olives, GREEN OLIVES I TELL U! But in the best way. Some wet stones, red plums in the background & some smokyness 2.
Palate - silky smooth mouthfeel. A nice mature commen wa wine thread that ive noticed from tasting Several 00 lately. They seem 2 be evolving in the same direction. Subtle fruit, smoke & good acidity. This still had some complexity 2 it w/the olives & a nice spicy finish. It held up through the whole byk 2 which was nice. But we knew better then 2 decant!
Paired perfectly w/chicken, mushrooms, pancetta in a port sauce! The acidity cut rich through the rich sauce! Love it in a totally different way then the 1st time But loved it just the same!

Decanted and consumed with some lovely grilled lamb chops. This was a very nice WA cabernet blend. Nice maturity, very soft, fully resolved tannins. Colour was still pretty deep - with only a tinge of garnet on the rim. Nose was good but not singing - sweet but not jammy blackberry, dark cherry some herbal hints. Palate was the real deal though - sweet but very well balanced, nice acidity, really juicy with resolved tannins - lovely long currant length. In no danger of dying, but this was probably about peak. Very good.

I do love this wine, but not this bottle. This and '01 Flying Pig became nothing when given lots of air. FP opened a few hours in the bottle; and the Camespello 3 hrs. in a decanter. Both fell flat? What's going on here?

Compared over heavy appetizers along with a 1995 Clerc Milon and a 1995 Chateau d'Armailhac. This was clearly the Walla Walla wine in the group. It was deep in color and had an aroma of full ripe fruit. Its flavors ran to very ripe and sweet berries; much sweeter than the two Bordeaux. Its a nice wine and held its own against the two older Bordeaux but with a different style. It was fresh and appeared in no danger of needing to be consumed in the near term.

BYO (Michaels place): Black currant fruit. Refined and "bright" flavors. It is a bit special but not with the normal Cayuse funk.

Good condition, very much ready to go. Notes of raspberry, chocolate, and pepper—Cabernet fruit is very apparent here. Complex and interesting.

Deep, dark, opaque garnet color.
Blackberry, raspberry, plum, and cedar tones dominate the palate.
Low-key acidity works, just enough.
Smoothly integrated, medium bodies. Moderate tannins underneath.
Good effort.

Craig Vanderah's Annual BBQ (Pax, Kosta Brown, Beaucastel, Donjon, Turley, Loring, Neal): My palate was probably shot at this point and my notes are hard to read. This smelled underripe/green to me. The taste was also lean. Can't read my descriptors. Pretty well balanced but a short finish.
