Carobs at the nose and then prunes, mature figs, hints of licorice. Smooth and powerful, a good example of what a great Amarone can be after 22 years of cellar

Decanted only 15-20 minutes. First taste out of the bottle almost felt like a young porto. That being said very smooth. Perfect for the Beef Wellington we had with it. We need something to counter balance all the fattiness of the Wellington and the meat and that Armaron did amazing.
Great Armaron and ready now.

Part of a tasting put on by Masi – what a difference a decade has made. In ’10, there were notes of red cherries, cola & spice, with a light & tannic raisin-y palate.
Following a 3 hour decant? Aromas of mission figs, blueberries & damp tobacco leaves. It was heavenly!
The palate did not disappoint either - with flavors of fig butter & chocolate. On the back end of the long finish there were cigar notes.
Elegant wine that drinks smooth right now – still a few years left in the tank.
Cork stained 3/4". Decanted for two hours; no sediment. Deep ruby color. Funky nose. After four hours, the funk was gone and replaced by plums, raisins and vanillas. Medium bodied, slightly sweet cherries and plums on the palate, well balanced by lively acids and soft tannins. The tannins and some heat dominate on a lengthy finish. This is the first of five bottles I bought at auction last year. Since other CT tasting notes are more favorable, I wonder if this wine had been poorly stored in the past. It's still OK, but I am an Amarone fan, and this bottle was short of my expectations.

Red color with brown rim. The nose is a little shy in the beginning but opened up marvelously in the glass with lots of raisins, figs, vanilla and wood. Elegant and complete, the fruit, tannins and alcohol in perfect balance. Not the sweet fruity stuff that you can find in some Amarones. Long exquisite finish. Had this wine 09 and 11 but this time it is so much better. Probably the best Amarone I have had.

Nice deep red color with ruby rim. The nose is not very intense but has hints of plum, some raisins and cherries. Very elegant, dry wine, with powerful tannins and potent alcohol. This one is very low on fruit and would work best with medium strong cheese or game. Maybe a little off balance now with the still very powerful tannins and relatively low fruit. Might need another 5 years to develop mature spiciness and softer tannins.

The color is bright, medium ruby rim with garnet hues. Deepish ruby core with a garnet tint. Thick tears.
The nose is quite intense and developed with dominant aromas of plum and dark cheries, then complex notes of apricot, vanilla and clove.
The palate is dry, with some sweetness from the alcohol. Medium-plus acidity, high alcohol, and a fairly high level of silky tannins. Silky mouthfeel, with a clearly salty note. Intense flavours of plum and dark cherries, dried fruit and notes of clove. Long and complex.
An outstanding wine that is quite elegant, long, intensive and very complex. Ready to drink, the fruit is declining. But it wil develop further spicy complexity for another 5 years.

Masi Amarone with Tony Apostolakos, US Director of Masi Agricola (Vinopolis, Portland, OR): Soft and spicy on the nose, lighter than the 1999, and almost elegant. Soft on the palate, showing some candied fruits, and more mild in nature than usual. Coating the palate on the finish, as this is quite gritty and spicy. Light alcohol lingers. This is skating right between 89 and 90 points.

Deep garnet with brick red rim. Sweet red berries, also black fruit, raisins, prunes and chocolate. Wonderfull full bodied mouthfeel, balanced and long. Last time tasted the fruit was fresher and the wine was preferable to this.

Nice deep red with hints of brick, powerfull Amarone with the right balance, not overly sweet. Distinct alcohol (15,5% doesent go by unnoticed). Great wine, will further integrate and improve the coming 5-8 years.

Dark core with scents of strawberries, blueberries, and cherries. Tannins are a little out of control here, finish is like straight black tea, but I tasted this after it had been open for a day.

Bottle was a little disjointed. Took an hr for the funk to blow off the nose. A little better the second night
