Thought a bit taught still. Tannins a little pronounced yet and probably the result of the less tannic wines we drank prior and no charred meat or fatty food. Very good cab. Open 2 hrs early.

Wine Thief (2016 Purlieu) (Napa): Red and black cherry, red currant, and some spice are delivered on a fairly acidic platter in this version of Buoncristiani’s Cabernet. PnP was a bit bracing at first, but it relaxed its grip a bit with some swirling in the glass. Medium mid-palate, with a would-be complexity that was somewhat washed-out by a Stoli Vanil vodka element that made for a clear message as to the youth of this wine.
Overall, a well put together specimen that seems stunted only by its juvenescence at the moment. The frame and grip are indeed notable; they just need to find a little more balance yet in order to let the fruit fully express itself. Hold for another 2-3+ years.

Had this while also drinking through most of the 2016 Purlieu lineup, so it was a tough crowd. Just a disclaimer here.
This is a very nice wine. Cherries, raspberries, herbs and earthy notions on the nose. The pallet is very taut, maybe a touch linear, but also very well structured and framed in by a strong tannic backbone. Good levels of red and blue fruit, some spice and lots of savory elements. Mostly medium bodied with a solid mid pallet and 30 sec+ finish. Definitely more red fruit, not as concentrated, a bit less pure and not as plush as the Purlieu's, but those are significantly more expensive.

Underperformed for a $100 bottle. Okay fruit up front but thin finish.

Perfectly Nice cab but not sure it is worth the price. Finish a little short and flat for a $100+ bottle of wine.
