As happens with Bize wines (at least of this era), they can go into and out of closed and open phases. This wine has closed down considerably8 since last year, although there's plenty of potential showing in the deep dark fruit.

Superb bottle with complex red fruits, a little dark, some stem/earth tones, medium-weight, Beaune-side roundness. Early first stage maturity. Cellared sine original release.

Bize is the real deal. This comes screaming out of the gate on the nose with awesome bloody, meaty aromatics, showing some secondary development. The palate is on-point too - concentrated, definitely some development but with sticky tannins still. Black fruits. No harm in holding but I loved this now.

a little hesitant, as bigger ‘05s seem shut, but this is forward and friendly. Red fruits, earth, a little smoke, fleshy but with a touch of tangy acids, can age but drinking well now. B+

Tons of fleshy red fruits; cranberries, pomegranate, and sour cherry. Beautiful florals accompanied the red fruits and this was just a very pretty wine, and why Savigny-les-Beaune can provide such great QPRs. With about 2 hours of air, this opened up very nicely. Still young, this should be in a good place for many years.

Showing riper and more open than my bottle a year ago. Still the brambly Savigny fruit with more pronounced smokiness and spice. Showing a touch of alcohol on the first night, but much more in balance the next night. A touch lacking depth mid-palate but overall quite solid.

Short note: this is still very primary with classic SLB brambly fruit but that purple grapeiness in youthful Savigny is still very present. Full bodied and just beginning to bring on secondary flavors .. definitely still needs time.

Another somewhat accessible 2005, which I don't regret opening this early. Even after an hour of air, this shows well aromatically and offers fair amount of pleasure on the palate with a lot of Savigny brambly fruit. After 24 hours corked on the counter it is even more fun with an expansive nose and a more juicy palate. This will certainly be better in 10 years, but if you are in the mood to crack a 2005 open today, this might not be a bad one.

Bottle had signs of light seepage. Unclear to me whether it was hat related or cork failure, but the wine showed no overt heat damage. On the contrary, this is a dark pitched Burgundy with a shy nose of tobacco, plum, and earth. On the palate, cherry comes through with some tar and floral notes as well as some leather and crushed rock. Finishes very strong. In my book, this is a great wine from a great, but unheralded terroir from a superb vintage.

From cask: Quite deep blood/cherry. Fresh red fruit, and just a touch floral. Quite classy. Mouth entry quite full and sweet. Well poised. Full and quite spicy in the mouth. Nicely savoury and long. 3+

Charming mid weight burg, showing the good vintage character nicely. Red fruited nose and a more earthy palate.
