Blind: guessed this was a Zinfandel from a cool vintage. Is there such a thing?
The first thing that screamed Zinfandel was the color, I really thought I was on to something here. It just had that hue. The palate was Red Berry and Cherry. Very reserve in its presentation and quite enjoyable to sip.
The nose was interesting and had a medicinal quality. Not distracting just made me think "where is this from?".
Ah, Italy! Excellent.

Opened yesterday. I poured a blind splash for my friend Brig and he called Zinfandel, which now thinking about his gut guess yesterday, his guess was strong. 12.6% abv. There is a floral charcter to the aroma, and a palate of fresh berries and plum running through it. Spicy yet creamy quality with a dose of bright acidity. Still some tannin that suggests a wine that oughta age well. Pretty delicious and could fool me for being a fresher, red fruited lower alcohol Zin.

This is a lovely wine for people who really love interesting reds. He is a master winemaker with true talent for rescuing oft-forgotten grapes and lovingly growing and blending them to a Napa winemaking standard. This wine paired perfectly with a spinach, feta, and prosciutto omelette on a weeknight. We drank it over three nights and it continued to unfold in interesting ways.

Very pretty and complex wine: charcoal, dark cherry, and subtle licorice. Fantastic expression on the palatte, plum and serious rhubarb play. Also has subtle medicinal/cough syrup notes. Just excellent.

On the nose; a bit of funky sourness, blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, plum, berry licorice cola, dark turned earth, fresh dark florals with old violets.
The body is medium and has fine dry tannins. Blackberries, dark cherries, blueberries, plum, strawberries, berry licorice cola, dark turned earth, fresh dark florals with old violets. Beautiful acidy with fresh ripe, polished finished.

July 2018 Matthiasson Visit (Matthiasson Winery/Vineyard): Added this to the database, as I don't believe it has been released yet? We had this over lunch. Reminds me some of the Spring Hill pinot, with the florality of that wine. Plummy too, akin also to something pinot noir in tone too. Pure berry flavors, lavender and ripe and fresh. This is grown right on the property from the few rows that are close to the house.

Misc wines at MGs place: Juicy and airy but also pure/clean and somewhat understated. Very delicious!
