  • Approachable straight from the bottle, this is an OK glugger but nothing more.

  • Lichtgoudgele Chardonnay uit Spanje. Licht zurig met wat boomfruit (appeltje). Gebakken zalm met Penne. Prima. @Pratorius voor €5,24

  • The label says the wine is Chardonnay, but to my understanding this is a blend of organically farmed Chardonnay - partly fermented and aged in oak barrels and partly in stainless steel - and a little bit of Parellada. Tasted blind in VV.

Intense and moderately deep yellow-green color. Quite big and moderately sweet-toned nose with aromas of nectarine, some fresh green apples, light floral notes of orange blossom and a hint of pineapple. The wine is juicy and moderately full-bodied on the palate with somewhat restrained flavors of ripe golden apples, some crunchy star fruit, a little bit of apricot and a slightly chemical hint of alcohol. The high acidity keeps the wine somewhat in balance. The finish is medium-long with flavors of sweet golden apples, some apricot, a little bit of creaminess and a slightly distracting, chemical hint of perhaps alcohol.

A quite nice and balanced Catalan white, but there is a somewhat chemical off note that slightly distracts from the pleasure and takes its toll on the score. I wonder if this wine was just too young for its own good and if another year or two of aging could help the wine come a bit better together? Otherwise this was a decent everyday white, priced according to its quality at 12,35€.
