Though probably past its prime, this was a really enjoyable bottle of wine. The fruit had faded but I could immediately sense the Dry Creek briariness, which is the thumbprint of the region. I literally cut my Zin teeth on the abundant, well made offerings from the area; dating back to the early-mid 80’s. In fact, that is precisely why I nabbed this bottle off of the Library rack on this visit to the Amador tasting room last month. The color was a slightly cloudy purple, not unlike the appearance of the barrel samples that we’d overindulge in, during our regular attendance at the annual Barrel Tasting weekends in the valley. As you can tell, I’m getting nostalgic. This wine did that to me… Like I said, muted but still present fruit. Low to mid level acidity that added lift, and, no perceptible tannin; making this drink like a low alcohol food wine. YUM!

Lots of luscious cherries and fruit leather. Very big mouth feel and a finish of lingering red fruit and raisins. I usually don’t care for Zinfandel but this was quite good

Smelled a bit bretty on the first night, but it eventually blew off. Strawberry pie, spice and cedar nose. Medium bodied, raspberries, bing cherries, a dash of white pepper, completely integrated sweet tannins, milk chocolate, good acid, and a loooong cherry finish. Just terrific.

Clear light, medium red. Intense creamy, ripe berry fruit as well as smoke, pepper and earth. Ripe but dry berry fruit and a long dry tannic finish with a great bit of acid.
This is really nice Wright now but could improve.

Garnet in color with bricking. Nose of heat/alcohol, dark berries, dried fruit, cedar, caramel. On the palate, lush with palate of blueberries and other dark berries, red currants, bing cherry, red licorice, eucalyptus, burnt sugar, celery, chalk/loam. Medium body with medium finish. Reminescent of a good Syrah, but still has a lot of Zin character.

Opened with hearty dinner, this grist showing surprisingly light for a Turley offering. Less zin characteristics than many, light to medium body, Syrah like, pomegranate notes, strawberry and cherry - all reds. For 15.1%, this hides it well. Day two + under vac-u-vin, hardly reminiscent of a zin on the nose - very dark, full and thick portly jam juice and confected syrup. Freeze and pour over ice cream.

Huge win for this 15.1% wine from the DCV area. Well-balanced, no heat, long finish. Almost a glycerin-like feel on the tongue, the tannins are evident in a supportive role. All the better as it cost me $31 fully loaded on a Heritage Auction last month (yeah, a shameless plug, but no affiliation, yadda...).

Wears its alcohol well, berry and chocolate on the nose, with fairly balanced rapsberry, chocolate and cracked pepper flavors. Finishes okay, not too long and without much of a burn. I think this is in a drink now phase, not much tannin sitting back there. Balanced is the name of the game here, with little hints of pruning that can plague the late picked Turley stable.

Minty aromas of citrus zest, black fruit. Full bodied flavors push toward the back of the taste with blackberry, dried herb, stewed tomato, pepper. Rich finish with good length and modest complexity.

Licorice and a subtle floral aroma. Tastes of licorice, raspberry liqueur and bramble. Hides the 15.1% alcohol very well. Balanced, sweet, tasty. Still has a few years ahead of it as well.

Much better than previous bottle, further reinforcing my belief that the last one was off. However, it seems that the 2005 vintage for Turley zinfandels in general, and this vineyard in particular, is much more restrained than in years past. Much less of the bramble and size that I typically see in Turleys. The restraint seems to help open up food pairing options, but I still hope that 2006 sees a return to the power of previous vintages.

Excellent Zin. Perfectly balanced. Bright ruby color. Great extraction. Nose of violets, ripe raspberries, herbs and licoriche. Very jammy but not too heavy. Lush mouth feel. Could not tell the 15.1% alcohol. Another great zin from Turley. Definitely recommended.

"Only" 15.1% alcohol. Clear dark garnet-blood red. Notes of faded, evolved red fruit, sandalwood, potpourri, with odd metallic and vegetal notes.

Licorice and black fruit. Decent wine though a bit lean and diluted for a Turley - maybe due to vintage.

Blast of licorice on the nose. Exceptionally smooth like most Turleys. At the top of the second tier of Zins.
