Dinner and Lunch with Michael Stephens...and Damoy and Aurelian Verdet Wines (Chicago, USA): My previous bottle from a year ago was massively reduced. Tonight's had subtle reduction, which completely dissipated within 30 minutes. Lots of apple and nut butter with minerally textures. Rugged start, then big at the 1-hour mark; then bigger, better, and brighter at 2 hours.

Big, but impeccably refined. There's a ton of potential here, but thought this was excellent after a little air to let the reduction/oak settle down. Ripe orchard fruits, some oak spice, creamy mouthfeel with a very long finish. Enjoyed this much more than the Genevrieres I had a few weeks ago, though both need another few years to show their best.

Blind 2014 / 2017 White Burgundy (Chez Winefool): Blind. Huge nose that is chock-full of primary, creamy, toasty, spicy orchard fruit. The palate follows suit with a power-driven profile and loads of rich, creamy while also bright and energetic fruit. Floral finish. Delicious now with upside. My 2/5, Group #2.

Double blind. A highly reduced white Burgundy. The reduction was more off-putting to some but I didn't mind it as much. Seemed to work well with the rich, youthful, creamy fruit that has enough body/dimension to absorb the intense match-stick notes. Didn't evolve much over two days, so I think this is the level of reduction that will stick with the wine. Upside if that reduction integrates more. Apparently the fruit is going to Coche starting in 2019.
