This is the most eye-opening domestic red wine I've enjoyed in YEARS. Weird comp, but think Fleurie/Morgon with more weight and some smoke. Fresh! Intoxicating, and so glad I have two more bottles. Bravo, Saviah!

One hour double decant. Deep dark ruby magenta color. Black cherry, cigarette ash, dried straw, and plum on the nose. Smooth, dry, rich palate. Firm, but soft, tannins on the longish finish. This is well made, but too savory for my palate.

Drank from Bin North 17, with Aline and Emery’s dinner. 96% Syrah 4% viognier, Richard Funk. Stone smoke and tobacco with hint of plum on nose. Very dark purple. Soft even presentation chalk smoke with touch of plum blackberry and stone finish. Very complex. 8/10.

M's bottle. Paired with a 2010 Reyvaan Contender, which was excellent, but this wine (decanted in advance) was the most dazzling. Flamboyant black and blue fruit with black olive and fennel, with Rocks funk that went on for days. A real treat.

Big, monstrous and worthy. One of the more memorable Washington wines I can remember. Deep and brooding out of the decanter, it flashes blueberry, iodine and bramble. A strong finish makes this a wine for fatty or richer dishes. Enjoy now after plenty of air or cellar for 3-5 first.
A wine to seek out!

Very good Rocks District Syrah. Black fruit, spice, tobacco, wild game and smoked meat all show up. Still a very young wine, it's approachable now with a bit of decant time, but will definitely improve after 5 years with potential to shine in 10.

Walla Walla Syrah Festival Grand Tasting (Valdemar Cellars Walla Walla): Savory wine from the Rocks. Richard "Funk" along with brazed short ribs, dust, rock, floral and dark currants. Medium plus finish and a wine that will age a long time.

This has really come together in the last 1.5 yrs. Great balance, refined flavors, long finish. No downsides.
9/10/2020 Note: Might need more time. Good entry, but with a vegetal finish that doesn’t please. After ~2 hrs open, the aftertaste mellowed. 90 pts.

PNP. Boysenberry, cardboard, beef jerky and anise on the rich savory nose. Super smooth, velvety palate. Firm, full tannins on the medium long finish.
Impressively balanced Syrah. Would likely be even better with a year or two more in the cellar and/or a two hour decant.

Love it. Another stellar vintage. Rocks savory funk and well developed dark fruit. Balanced from start to finish
