  • This was our first dinner without the family matriarch, and quite predictably, the younger son (3.5 year old) requested fish tacos when given the chance to decide what to have for dinner (he asks if we can have fish tacos every night regardless of the situation). I went downstairs, expecting to find three bottles of this Meursault, but of course there were only two (I really need to do a full inventory of the ‘cellar’–the problem is I only ever ‘discover’ that I am missing several bottles [I never ‘find’ extras] which means that not only am I a drunk, but also terribly disorganized). After a brief stint in the freezer, I popped and poured. Color starting to get a bit dark but no other signs of oxidation. Bright Meursault nose, some lemon peel and vanilla. On the palate, tart and bright–acidity, well balanced with a hint of the lemon coming through the minerality. Very nice, but clearly getting a bit old.

  • Certainly getting to be a little long in the tooth, but this bottle showed better than the previous two (as I remember--but I also thought I had three of them left, not just two, so clearly I have issues). Nice acidity in the form of some lemon peel and a hint of vanilla. A bit disjointed in the mid-palate, but it tries to resolve itself by the medium finish. Very good.

  • The Yale Wine Society's First Tasting (New Haven, CT): Since last seriously tasted, this wine has integrated and shed much of its 2003 fat. Well structured, with enough acid to add lift.

  • First night rather thin and uneventful. Second night much more lively and interesting. I will hold the others a little longer.

  • Classic Burgundy nose, but a little acidic in the mouth. First served way too cold, and as it warmed, became much more balanced. This might need a little more time in the bottle to have the acids mellow a touch.

  • This bottle was improved by 3 days in the fridge after opening. The 13% ABV wine exhibits a pale, bright golden color. Despite coming from the ripe year of 2003, both the nose and palate are textbook Meursault. The nose displays hazelnut, tropical, and floral notes, and the palate is of low acidity and has great depth of fruit. The rich midpalate shows classic Meursault character; it is quite oily and slighlty fatty, yet still maintains hard edged minerality. A lasting finish completes the drink. Overall, this wine is a beautiful balance of finesse, delineation, and power. While rich with fruit, there is none of the blowsy character that plagued many 2003 white Burgs. This is delicious now but will be a nice short term ager.
