On PnP, a bit cloudy. Medium bodied. Mature, a bit over-mature fruits, with overtones of lead, bramble, kirsch. Slightly sour-ish after initial tastes, but with pretty long finish of the same character. Perhaps that will tone down after it’s open a bit.

Soft, restrained, delicious. I was waiting for this wine to "wake up" but am learning with each bottle that it's not one of the more complex Williams Selyem wines. Instead, it's simply a well-crafted, delicate Pinot that can hold its own in the mid-market. Very pleasant to drink.

13.8% alcohol. Red cherry color, lighter at the rim of the glass but no bricking. Wonderful nose of red cherry and earth, with a hint of minerals in the background. In the mouth, bright cherry fruit is the soul of the palate, exploding with pleasing life. Strong acidity and otherwise uncomplicated, with a bit of earth, but the cherry is strong, lively, and appealing. It's purity is terrific. A-

This was my first WS "Central Coast" so drank with no expectations from prior bottles other than other pinots by this company. Opened the wine about an hour before dinner. Modest, dark fruit nose but opened a bit more with time in the glass. Smooth, nicely balanced wine, with some cherry/strawberry on the palate. Did not exhibit the complexity of the winemaker's RRV varietal of the same vintage. Nice finish.

This Pinot is really coming back to life! Just a few months ago it was quiet, rather "flat" and not very interesting. But now it has the layers and depth that showcase the classic Williams Selyem complexity that we know and love. This is not an overly-concentrated fruit bomb, but instead a delicate Pinot with balanced acidity and subtle fruit transitions. Enjoyed over two days and it didn't disappoint.

This bottle, a fantastic surprise: the best Pinot from the Central Coast I can remember, and actually one of the more enjoyable bottles of American Pinot. A bit fleshier, a bit more black fruit mixed in with the red than is typical; and actually that's not characteristic of Pinots I typically enjoy; but in this bottle, it totally worked.

Upon open, a very pleasant wine. Pretty medium to light ruby red color with a hint of orange rim. Nose of cola, raspberry, sweet cherry and mixed red fruit. Palate a bit like a mixed berry cobbler. Maybe a hint of vanilla. And definitely some sweetness. Not too much, but just a hint. 2nd day, even better. Seemed to generate more power and depth. Similar flavors and aromas, but deeper, richer and thicker. Upgraded my score from 90 to 92.

Good juice but not as complex as I have experienced with other William Sellem wines. This was the primary bottle for our Thanksgiving dinner. I do prefer a Pinot with turkey :) The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Medium. It tastes like and Orange Blossom. The body is Medium. The wine has Silky texture. The wine finishes Medium.

Slow-O 1 hour, aerate in decanter for 1 hr, consumed over the following 2 hours. Medium garnet, slight sign of age. Average complexity on the nose, less so on the palate. The attendant W-S mouthfeel was there, but not much else. Average in all regards, and a disappointing value at $35. Drink thur 2014, 13,8% abv, score: B-/B

Big Central Coast Pinot taste - I am increasingly finding that there is emerging a certain "there" There (Central Coast). But is it the best "there" there can be? While deep dark and powerful and smooth it still has that candy Central Coast cola and spice but without sufficient acids, green tannins (not a lot thank you) and oak/smoke/spice to make it anything more. While it still coats the palate a la Kosta Browne it isn't necessarily fun to drink. I was disappointed obviously that such a potentially fine wine crew as runs this place has to put out this kind of so so middle of the California road crap. And don't tell me about the economy - I bought this stuff back in 07/08 at the height of the boom/bubble/bust. This was the expression of Central Coast Pinot that they wanted to make! Guys, if you are going to do a generic Central Coast, pleeeze don't also try to make a generic Pinot at the same time.....
And to add insult to injury - take a look at my notes from another 05 Central Californian Pinot - the Southing from Sea Smoke. Worlds apart.

On the nose, aromatic with classic Cali pinot fruit, some floral, and an anise residual on the back of the nasal cavity. On the palate, smooth lush mouthfeel. Medium in overall weight, and still a bit of structure left. Some sour but definitely in the background. A sweeter fruit dominates while appearing balanced, not overwhelming in the least. Some remaining acidity and tannins. Relatively long finish. For me, as a fan of this style, this bottle is a nice value at $35.
I had this a year ago and really liked it. It's better today, smoother and more integrated. A great bottle to open in protection of the SVDs. When I've opened up WS btls too early, they can seem thin and leaning too heavy towards sour. This bottle is none of that. Despite the Spectator "drink by" of 2009, this still has some time left. That said, it's drinking wonderfully now.

13.8% alcohol. Pretty red color. Aromatic nose of black cherry, spice, and minerals. In the mouth, racy and full of black cherry fruit. The earth and minerals add a nice touch, but there is a small hole in the center palate, just before the acidity kicks in. Strong finish. This needs some more time in the bottle. B+

First whiff off popping the cork was alcohol which made me nervous. After a short while it blew off leaving a very nice Pinot. Not real light or dark just a nice slightly cloudy garnet. A nice mixture of red and dark fruits, some Central Coast funk, and other various earthly flavors. Quite interesting for a 30 dollar Pinot. The last glass, about 90 minutes into the bottle was clearly the best. The tannins are mostly resolved, though, and the wine is clearly in it's drinking window.

On the nose, I get light cherries, watermelon rind, a subtle mint among other herbs - very lovely overall. Already, there is some silkiness on the mouthfeel, although it is a bit thin yet. Bright cherries, obvious toasted oak that is, while a bit much for me, not terribly out of place. Acidity is in check, and keeps it from being flabby, holding in the bright fruit flavors. Finish has a bitter edge to it, much like cherry pits, where you taste a bit of the fruit, but it is overcome by the bitterness.

This wine had strawberries both on the nose and the palate. The nose had character and the taste on the front end was quite approachable and flavorsome. What I didn't like so much was a thin finish which also showed too much astringency. Overall, I liked it.

13.8% alc. Cloudy ruby... The nose is interesting from the outset, seems woody, vanilla, touch of earth and a slight spice...the palate is medium-light in body, no tannins to speak of, fairly one-dimensional, pure fresh cherry, even strawberry, all red fruit...THEN IT CHANGES...
Night 2: Everything has changed - the nose has taken on a smoky, meaty, perhaps brett-like component to all the fruit...the meatiness continues on the palate and the sweet red fruits have taken on substantially more weight, though still medium bodied the mouthfeel is much more silky and offers "more", the complexity gained is substantial by night 2. Longer, richer, more.
If I had posted these notes after night 1 I would have been supremely disappointed - this wine has shown much more detail and promise on night 2. My disappointment has disappeared. Well done WS.

Decanted about 4 1/2 hours. The nose had aromas of bright cherry and strawberry, along with a small amount of forest floor, a hint of brown spice, and a bit of vanilla. The palate was smooth, with sour cherry, earth, and spices. It had a wonderful, long finish.

Ruby red slightly cloudy color followed by a nose of cranberry, nutmeg, and sour cherry. Maybe even a hint of jasmine and peet moss. Lush palate of sour cherry, red currant, and spice with a good shot of acidity that finished very nicely. Seems like this could pass for a village burgundy or good Bourgogne if it wasn't for the pronounced spice. Very good effort and I prefer this vintage of WS CC over the prior two.
