Friday Night Brown Bagger (R&R's): Double blind. Medium straw yellow color. Orchard fruit notes with a hint of something tropical in the background. Nice fruit on the palate as well, with noticeable underlying acidity. I think most guesses, including mine, were domestic chardonnay. (R&R)

Wow. This is really different. A tropical styled Albariño from Carneros that has gorgeous acidity. Pineapple, white peach, stoney mineral and mouthwatering acidity. The viscous texture is notable, but makes this a standout wine.

Well, at least for this wine! It was just about two years ago that I reviewed this same wine but from the 2017 vintage. I knew I had to buy it again, especially since I was paying just about half of what I paid previously! I love a good sale and a good wine. I got both!
I could regale you with the history of the winery, but if you’re interested you can go to my post www.hiitsdon4wine.com/dons-blog/2018/10/8/eighty-four-albarino-2017 for details, suffice to say it’s a wine produced by Doug Shafer and longtime vineyard manager Elias Fernandez who first started working together in 1984. Enough history.
Coming from estate-grown fruit in Carneros within the Napa Valley, the wine, just as with the previous vintage, begins with aromas of citrus and a slightly honeyed note. On the palate, it continues those citrus nuances with orange and stone fruit mixed with pleasant minerality together with a crisp and lively finish as the wine sees no oak or goes through any malo.
There’s not much Albariño coming from the states, so this makes the wine a standout, throw in how good it is, and it’s a no-brainer.
Cheers

Great typicity. Entirely correct Albarino, with Napa fruit. Great freshness, acidity, and vibrancy. Paired really well with pan roasted halibut with capers and lemon butter sauce.

Light yellow color. Lively aromas of yellow flowers, honey, sea salt, with lemon, apricot and white peach. Medium+ bodied, really fresh and inviting with pleasant texture and crisp, lip-smacking acidity. Lemon curd, apricot and white peach fruit mixes nicely with chalk dust, salted almond, hints of mint and basil. Lovely depth yet this is s vibrant and gluggable, a great wine to drink all Spring and Summer. This spends four months on the lees in stainless steel (no oak, no maloactic fermentation).
