Intense beeswax / honey aroma followed by ripe golden apple and wet gravel. On the palate the wine is lean and steely, with flavors following through, but also getting some apple skin, almonds and some citrusy bitterness. High acid. Really nice with scallops.

An Epic Summer Wine Weekend - Year 2; 6/30/2023-7/2/2023 (Muskoka, Ontario, Canada): First warm-up wine of the weekend before everyone arrived, sipped on the dock while going for a swim. This pours light straw in the glass. The nose is fresh and airy with the fruit very green apple and lime driven augmented with notes of pool toy, white peach, and slate. The palate enters on white peach, quickly turning to high, sour acid with significant green apple and lime notes. The finish closes on quite green tinged acid. Perhaps a vague hint of RS. All in all I found this quite riesling-like with the very high green tinged acid and seemingly a pinch of RS. Not my personal preferred style of Loire Chenin Blanc, but I can fully understand and appreciate why others love it. Perfectly serviceable stuff.

Much better than my last tasting. This really is a white which improves with age. Good fruit (quince, apricot) concentration and textural body on the palate but with a nice crisp acidity and freshness to balance. Better as it warms up. Very moreish!!

-- popped and poured -- -- tasted non-blind over 4 hours --
NOSE: high-toned and tart-smelling.
BODY: light maize color; medium-light bodied.
TASTE: high acidity; gooseberry; green grapes; green apple; slightly wooly/underbrushy; mineral on the finish -- fuzzy metallic presentation; slightly salty umami aspect; 13% alc. well-hidden; extremely good for an entry-level bottling. This was my last of 7 bottles --- clearly, this needs to be an annual case purchase because these went way too fast.

Terrific dry, minerally white. Granite, lemon, sea salt, scallops, and lots of acid. Gave it 10 minutes in the freezer but liked it best after warming to about 50F degrees.

2018 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc was refreshing and juicy. The youthful Loire Chenin was pale lemon in colour without any sediments. There were inviting aromas of lemon zest, honeycrisp apples, smoke and wet wool. The mouthfeel was dry and medium-bodied, with high level of fresh acidity. There were flavours of grapefruit, ripe red apple and saline minerals in a medium finish. The alcohol level was at 13%.

-- popped and poured on Day 1 -- -- tasted non-blind over 3 hours on Day 1; revisited on Day 7 --
NOSE: mix of saltiness, fresh raw scallops, and light orange blossom.
BODY: golden yellow color of medium intensity; medium-light bodied.
TASTE: "solid," right down the middle of the fairway; more mineral than fruit; distinct peach note at the 2.5 hour mark. Day 7: strong mineral with a bit of wool; peach note gone now.

I always compare Chenin Blancs to Huet which I have tasted the most. This is more mineral and dry. Roasted cereals, honey, pears. More austere and medium/short. Rather simple but very enjoyable none the less.

NOSE: pretty straightforward, with a classic apple-pear combo.
BODY: medium-light bodied; vibrant, pale yellow color.
TASTE: high acidity, but not enamel-stripping; ample mineral; apple-pear combo from Nose reflected on the Palate; dry; a touch salty -- quinine; very nice entry-level bottling. Drink or Hold.

Had a glass of this, and found it very lacking sadly. Unbalanced and sour, with no redeeming features. Dissapointing considering I've been impressed by previous vintages. Maybe it was just a bad bottle, but the guy I bought it from said he'd had a similar experience with it 3 months ago.
(Tried to give it air over several hours, to no avail).

2018 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc was refreshing, juicy and mineral-driven. The Saumur Chenin Blanc was clear and pale lemon in colour without any sediments. It was quite closed and bitter at first, and took an hour of aeration to open up aromatics of lemon zest, quince and ripe honeycrisp apples, followed by dry wool, smoke and stony minerality. The mouthfeel was dry and medium-bodied, complemented with high level of refreshing acidity. Flavours of ripe red apples and grapefruit were present in a medium salty finish. Wines that derived complexities without oak treatment are adorable. Its juiciness and fresh acidity made it a perfect summer sipper. It appears that quality Chenin Blanc from Loire Valley, in general, requires proper aeration to reveal its aromatics.

Absolutely stunning. This release/vintage has a lot of life left in it. I cannot wait to drink my other cellared bottle in ten years. Fresh yellow and white orchard fruits, young creamy Brie cheese, multiple layers of texture and minerality. I will literally FIGHT to continue buying upcoming vintages of Romain Guiberteau’s releases, with avid search for his small release Cabernet francs from Saumur; even Grolleaus, with fingers crossed that they will stay so affordable. Wait and see, his release prices are going to quickly climb in the coming years.

Consumed at Peter Pan Bistro, Toronto Notes written on introspection 2018 Domaine Guiberteau Saumur Blanc was clear and pale lemon in colour without any sediments, packed with nose of honey, lemon and green apples. More citrus notes emerged as it warmed up in glass. The Loire Chenin Blanc was dry, medium-bodied, with medium-high acidity and a bit of bitter phenolic grip in the finish of medium length.

Yellow, nose at this stage muted. At first mouthwatering green apples, with time mineral elements take over, great balance, medium acidity, long finish. Fantastic value. Needs seroius cellaring
