Only slightly sweet, but just full of character. Slides along the tongue while tickling the fancy. Just lovely! 2/28/22: Even better, if anything. What a pleasure to drink.

Very fruity (guava, meyer lemon, and hint of passion fruit), along with honeyed accents and bit of waxiness. On the sweet side, but not as sweet as many Spatlese. The secondary characteristics that I appreciate are not fully developed yet. This has the stuffing to go for years. As tasty as this is now, I will try to keep my hands off the rest of them for 10 years (easier said than done).

Decanted two hours. At first, this wasn't showing a whole lot. There's a shimmery layer of pale botrytis on top of an unformed dark spicy/smoky tone. The fruit is correct but more yellow than orange. Medium + texture, firmly acidic to the point it shows little sweetness. The last glass on day 2 was starting to get there. Interesting, this makes me think of the tri-colored sherbet I used to eat as a kid, the one with pineapple, lime and raspberry. It's like a spoon that's just the pineapple (hello Pralat!) and lime, down to the creamyness. Forget you have this for 15-20 years.

AP #6. Deep yellow to light golden; medium-plus aromatics with stone fruit and minerality; savory palate with sassafras, white fruits, elegant low alcohol, medium acidity, medium bodied; finish is medium-long with good depth. A bit better than the AP#2 spatlese Urgluck. 91.

AP #2. Coravin. Yellow-golden; medium intensity aromatics, a bit reticent, white flowers, peach fruit; palate is medium bodied, low alcohol (9%), medium acidity, some white fruits, slight sweetness, a bit of petrol; finish is medium length. This seems a bit coiled, showing less than I expected from the flagship site for Merkelbach. I will give my other bottle a few years before trying. 89 With 30 min air, this develops a bit more herbal complexity on the nose; palate has a textural quality to it now, a bit of dry extract and almost tannic. I think this is a high quality almost savory wine, just not showing everything today. 89-90

Well balanced with a medium mouth feel. Tastes of honey balanced nicely with acidity. Would buy again.

Really complex, nice fruit forward and residual sugar. Love the petroleum feel. Give this several years. Will just get better.
