This was so good. It starts off with some tar and spruce like forest smells. There's some truffle aromas too. With air there a core of black cherry, raisins and burnt fig that intensifies. It is rich and powerful, with great depth and chew. Towards the end of the bottle Indian spice notes came to the fore.

A great Italian evening in Belgium: Mature bouquet with rust and iron, earth, autumn and still a hit of red berries. The same on the palate, juicy acidity and fully integrated and melted soft tannin.

Italian night @ Stappato (Enoteca Stappato, Leuven (Belgium)): Shy, reticent nose. Lovely freshness and acidity are the main attraction of this wine. Midpalate is starting to get thinner, but the length and persistence of this wine is still impressive.

OK but not great nose, a bit oxidized. The palate however was quite nice with deet underlying sweetness which lingered in the finish and made the wine quite long. Very little tannins left which was a strange sensation-a Barolo with no tannins :-)

Quite oxidized and tired bouquet, which became better with time, but the wine never blossomed really (bad bottle?). On the palate it was dried out with just the faintest fruit left. Not a pleasant experience.

Some random exclusive wines (@ TBa): Tobacco, autumn forest and earthy impressions in the bouquet. On the palate mushrooms and still juicy and a good concentration with pleasant acidity. Soft and well integrated tannin. A feast! Great wine. Still so good! Will probably not improve anymore, but will probably stay on this level for some years. Great with a mushroom based dish!

Another beautiful bottle. Pop and pour with no food, and drunk with Jeb Tryon and Chris Maddelena. This was much like the last bottle, although maybe a little drier. Started limpid red with a wonderful old Barolo nose, with some floral nuance.

This was yet another example of great Barolo. This bottle seemed younger than the first bottle. Beautiful clear red that darkened over three hours. The nose had a beautiful light compost nose and just wetted asphalt, plenty of white flower petals and bright, mature red fruits. In the mouth the red fruits were sweet and mature, with a little tartness to balance, and some nice iron cherry.

A perfect Barolo. This was good right when the cork was pulled. Clear red, with wonderful Barolo nose. Tart, but with great balance, ripe and mature red and dark fruit and soft earth elemental minerals. Piercing sweetness with awesome balance.

Classic old style Barolo(this was before Scavino went 'modern'). On the nose there are dried fruits, flowers and other typical aged nebbiolo aromas. Tannins are quite rustic so this screams out for food but the fruit is still hanging in there and after a couple hours in the decanter this was quite lovely.
