Two bottles opened. One was a bit thin but still alive. Second one had more power and acidity. Very very good, yet faded and far from it's top. Second bottle was better after 6 hours.

Was better 10 years ago more than likely. Was not corked and was not flawed. The cork was withdrawn in two pieces but was not completely saturated. Most of the fruit in this wine has faded, replaced with pipe tobacco and figs, but really had an overwhelmingly savory character, BBQ potato chip, and didn't really develop much from there. Mushroom au jus. Just tired at this point. I purchased this bottle 8 years ago, and probably should have opened it up within 6 months of purchase. Given that a lot of the 70's Stag's Leap wines still are showing some potential, I decided to hold. It was SIGNIFICANTLY upstaged by a 1987 Sterling Vineyards Winery Lake Merlot, and it wasn't even close.

Stag's Leap Library Wine Tasting (Heritage Gallery - Chicago IL): Walk around tasting, direct from winery. Great nose, less complete on palate with a faintly metallic note. This has that old school Napa style that is enchanting and elegant without being heavy, a style rarely seen these days.

HDH Magnum Dinner (Del Frisco - Chicago IL): Magnum. Fully mature black fruit with tobacco notes. Nothing uniquely outstanding, but really wonderful balance and good+ length.

Plum color with slightly brown edges. Great aged nose, with leather and earth. Mid pallet, has hints of berry. Tannins are still tightly wound after 1 hour. Finish is long and enjoyable. This is the 2nd of 3 bottles I bought. 20 years has definitely helped this WS 77 pt wine, but not made it profound. Its time has come, drink up. Enjoy!

This was a velvety smooth Cab, tannins were smooth and the flavors complex. Fruit intermingled with oak and a soft earthyness a layered perfeclty. One of the nicest cabs I have had but then I havent had many 18 year old cabs, worth the wait and $$.
