This is in a nice place right now. People underestimate this wine because it’s inexpensive and labeled a Crianza. It probably has 3-4 years of further evolution before starting its slow fade.

I keep buying this at Costco based on the professional reviews, thinking I’ll like it, and then I never do. It is whatever the opposite is of soft and rich is. It’s well made- I just don’t like what it is. Very dry, without much of a finish.

89/90. Is a bit austere. Has muted aromas of cherries, raspberries, vanilla and mineral hints. Its medium bodied solid juicy blue and red fruits has clovey hints, zingy acidity. Ends mediumish, tangy and a bit disappearing. 13.5%. Excellent value at 5E.99.

Not a good as I recall, perhaps just some bottle variability? Aromas of dried blackberry, cherry, licorice, smoke and a touch of hard cheese at the end. Simple and primary, it has round juicy red fruit and pepper on the palate, a sweet finish, satin texture and chalky tannins.

This also falls in the whatever of a wine category. Nose is plush and cheap (supermarket) smell. Palate outperforms that with some solid structure and overall balance. But just nothing really to think about, nothing hurting you, it's a value red wine. Could possibly gain an edge with a long decant or a couple years more in bottle.

This is pretty disappointing. Sweet cherry and vanilla, maybe a hint of tomato but not much else. Light tannins, M- acid, M body but weak concentration. Feels kinda like a relatively good boxed wine. I get that it’s a crianza, and not expensive obviously, but even for this price you can get better Rioja, with more personality and sense of place. ~4.5-5/10

Lots of red fruit, far less oak than other traditional Riojas. Cherry, pomegranate, earthy nose, medium acid and tannin. Balanced and food friendly. Good value.

Retail $17. 90% Tempranillo and 10% Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano. I do not have a ton of experience with Rioja and have never visited, but when I do, CVNE will be my first stop. I have been sampling their wines for several years now, and they always deliver. Medium garnet in the glass, with a decided herbal quality on the nose: mint, oregano, basil all get in there with some dark red fruit behind-really interesting and compelling aromas. The palate is rather austere, particularly initially, with all of those herbal qualities upfront. A bit of tart cherry and boysenberry come through on the midpalate, but this wine is all about the herbaceousness, and I like it. thedrunkencyclist.com

Dark ripe fruit nose, medium body on the palate, sweet with minimal tannings. Pronounced warm finish. Paired it with medium spice sauce and rice. Can also sip alone. I rated it 8/10

Medium ruby in color. Black cherry, raspberry, vanilla, oak, smoke, mushroom, balsamic, and baking spices on the nose. Blackberry, cherry, and vanilla on the palate. Moderate-low acidity and silky tannins. Cherry, black pepper, and vanilla on the finish.

Blend of 85% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha Tinto and Mazuelo, aged for a year in American oak. Paly ruby color. Dried blackberry, vanilla, cedar and smoke on the nose. Smooth and succulent, with depth on the palate: tart dark fruit and cedar. Rustic muscular tannins reveal its youth.
A gusty Crianza with finesse. Dark cherry raspberry tobacco and a touch of vanilla on the nose. Grippy on the palate with nice fruit touch of coconut and a herbal note. Medium finish. Very good. Drink now suitable for further ageing.
Like it a lot. Huge bang for the buck.

13.5% abv. Young and primary, but a very good value. Really nothing to dislike about this - it's well-balanced, has depth, not over-oaked, not sweet, has some structure, and has an interesting & pleasing flavor profile. Still too young for my palate, but I think a couple more years would put it into a nice drinking zone. If rating, 88 - 89 with potential for 90+.

Superb. Great balance. Lots life but not too much of anything. Finish keeps it fresh. A big step up from the basic often-overly-fruity CVNE Crianza and for v little more money.

Bright ruby color. Aromas of cherries, chilled strawberries, along with sweet roses, clay/earthy tones and cocoa powder. Fresh and bright, light tannins, juicy red fruit, crisp acidity. Cherries, raspberries and pomegranate mix well with roses, rhubarb, anise and mint. Fun, juicy, balanced, accessible but complex for the price. Aged 10 months in American oak.
