Tasted December 7, 2007. We needed a rose for a Salad Nicoise but were out so we chilled this down to about 50 degrees and served immediately. Nice pairing in a pinch (chilling is the key). Garnet color in the glass, clear hue throughout. Nose of black currants, a hint of dark chocolate, a touch of saddle leather and a whisper of florals. Totally unexpected in the CdR. Flavors of red berries, red currants, strawberries and an odd flavor that reminded me of Dijon mustard (odd I know but not offputting in any way). Fairly short finish. Medium acidity, integrated tannins, light to medium body. Drink now. Last bottle and oddly one of the best of the six.

  • WIML89. About the same as the tasting in early 2006. The December bottle must have been slightly off. Drink now.

  • This bottle seemed to be fading. Light to non-existent acidity. Same thing with the tannins. Fruit was absent. Just a bit of brett and a metallic presence on the palate. No rating as a result.

Tasted August 23, 2006 at home. Opened and served immediately in a Speigelau Authentis Magnum glass. Raspberry color in the glass, slightly dusty looking. Slightly tight nose of Kirsh, maybe some smoke, pepper, a mix of berries with a base of forest floor. Flavors of raspberries, sweet cherries, red berries and maybe a little red currant. Medium acidity, integrated tannins. Light to medium body. Good balance overall. Drink now through say 2009. Based on my local price of $14.45 a bottle I’d say the value here is between recommended and highly recommended.

  • After 4 days tasting through the Central Coast this was a relief- dark fruit, lively nose with medium to light weight this has great complexity and finish for the price. With Outback takeaway pork chops and home grown tomatoes it was excellent match.

  • Bright nose with black fruit highlights. Figs. The palate has dried red and black fruits and very good grip. A touch young, but excellent potential.

  • Tasted October 9, 2004. Purchased at La Cave Warehouse in Dallas, TX for $17.00 per 750ml. Opened without decanting about 5 minutes before serving in Spiegelau Authentis Bordeaux Glasses. The cork was wet 2/3rds of the length, saturated the first 1/8th of an inch. Garnet color with pretty good clarity for this unfiltered and unfined wine. I’m not certain of the blend of this wine but historically it runs approximately 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Carignan and 10% Mourvedre. The nose consisted of lilacs, forest floor, kirsch, cedarbox and coffee grounds. There was just a whisper of cocoa between swirls in the glass. Smooth tannins played well with the balanced and refreshing acidity. The moderate fruit showed well and the alcohol was perfectly in sync. Overall this is a fairly well balanced wine with flavors of sweet cherry, plum and currants present on the palate. Medium weighted and smooth consistency with a solid structure and a fairly agreeable level of complexity. This wine should drink well over the next few years. No reason not to enjoy it now. A solid B+ rating and somewhere between a B+ to A- on the value scale. Recommended buy.
