  • Tropical, refreshing. Good but not my favorite style

  • Peach, slight tropical fruit, citrus - lime, nice floral, integrated sugar- honey, good acidity. Lingering finish. Really enjoyable. 91+

  • Definitely a spatlese. The fruit is there. Rich and perky.

But fruit/weight is matched by an equal amount of herbal tincture that kinda makes this... interesting. Particularly for something that is obviously beyond off-dry RS.

Can't wait to try this with food. Really excited by this wine.

Not sure I could see it growing on me as a "sipper"

  • Pale yellow-green; aromatic, minerality, stone fruit, slightly herbal; palate is off-dry, balanced medium-plus acidity, excellent minerality, nice herbalness through the midpalate; finish is medium to medium-plus length. I've had enough Merkelback over the past month or two to realize this style is fairly consistent and enjoyable to drink. Lovely spatlese, certainly not the type of riesling that is nothing but sun-drenched fruit, but excellent with a meal especially on a warm day. 92
Day 2: A bit more integrated, less acid-driven though still plenty, a bit more tart lime, maybe a touch less depth through the midpalate, still an underlying element of herbal throughout. Different, but not really better or worse.
