2017 BC Red Blends on Blueback (Vancouver Island): part of a blind tasting of 2017 BC Meritage blends. Dark Ruby. Fresh black currant on the nose. Acid upfront and a bit of a tannic grip. Medium plus weight. A bit out of balance. Medium finish. Poured in third of three flights. Ranked 4th by group; 3rd by me. Needs a little more bottle time.
91 for now maybe +1 for later (2-3 yrs). Still a bit grippy upon opening. Would have thought a year-plus later this would have smoothed out. Definitely potential but refuses to evolve at this time. The acid is a bit elevated.

Meritage blend blind tasting with buddies, wine #3. Winery created by a couple from a financial industry hence the name of “laughing stock”. A blend of 48% Merlot, 32% CS, 14% CF, 4% Malbec, and 2% PV, aged for 20 months in FR oak (48% new). Deep garnet red, ruby hue. Intense aroma of blackcurrants, blackberries, balsamic, violets, dried tomatoes, tar, vanilla. Full body, rich black fruit flavours with chocolate and herbal notes, saline hints, soft tannins.

Deep ruby red colour. Nose has hints of berries, undertone of vanilla. Soft on the mouth with well balanced tannins. Needs time to open and suggest decanting for at least a half hour. Long finish to this wine.

A luxe and diversified Portfolio (2017). Q1: Dark cherry, rich blackberry and baking spice meet the nose. Q2: Velvety fruits on the palate with cocoa and pleasant caramel tones from the virgin oak. Q3: Tannins are woven elegantly and don’t overpower the symmetry. The acidity is mild. Q4: Closing (finish) is long.

C`est du costaud, ample et dense. Beaucoup de fruits noirs, mures et cassis avec un peu de poivrons et de tabac. Les tannins sont serrés et la finale hyper longue nous laisse sur un peu de chauffe. Jeune, à revoir!

Another very good BC red Meritage blend from 2017 (Nota Bene & Red Icon have showed well recently). Admittedly, a PnP, but good aromatics right out of the gate. Nice dark red fruits evolving throughout the evening in the glass. Still a tad young, slightly grippy tannins with refreshing acidity. Medium plus body and finish. Paired well with roast chicken and rice pilaf.

Drinking this wine young, but have 5 other bottles to drink to watch how this wine changes. Dark ruby red in color. Notes of black fruit and licorice. Dry, med body, med acidity, med tannins. I have had older vintages of this wine, and even though it is nice now, I am sure this will be amazing in 5 - 10 years.
