Medium-intensity aromas of blackberry, bell pepper, pepper, and perfume. Medium flavours of blueberry, vanilla, bell pepper, white pepper, brown sugar, and dried herbs with the bell pepper coming back at the end. An easy-drinking juicy wine from Sonoma, I was surprised by the bell pepper. Good with pizza

Retail $20 (often below $16). Under cork. Heavy bottle. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. When I grab a Cab that comes in under twenty bucks, I am cautious as there are a ton of wines at that price point that are rather, well, regrettable. Not with Benziger, however, as the family has been producing affordable, tasty wines for the better part of four decades. Cab in point (sorry, I really did almost stop myself). Great fruit, surprising acidity, and plenty of depth regardless of price.
There are lots of tasting notes on Vivino that are instructive. I pArticularly liked a comment identifying this with an Italian wine. Definitely good with food - steak, potatoes, broccoli, salad- vinegar- oil dressing. I just bought this at $10 bucks at Costco and want a few more btls. Dry not “fruity “- fine with me. . Missing a little richness in the middle. Not a $14 wine for me but a real nice wine at $10.

Dinner with a friend at a casual supper club and off of the wine list. Thirty-minute splash decant. Moderately fragrant during decant. Wine was clear, dark ruby in bowl and towards rim. Too young for any bricking. Nose was fairly deep: mixed berry jam, some toffee and a little epsom salts. In the mouth, very deep black fruit, green pepper, with medium long finish that was somewhat chalky and ended with a turkish coffee note. I wonder if there is some petite sirah in the blend? Very reasonably priced on the wine list and a pleasant little everyday drinker. A couple of more years on its side might calm the chalk down. Would be great with BBQ or kabobs.

Finally, after trying several $15 - $25 cabs, this one at least has varietal character; a decent red without the confected, oak chip, mega purple, cloyingly sweet junk cab often found at this price point. From a well known, regarded family. Great value!

Nice easy to drink wine. Not complex. Some earthy aromas and flavors. Short finish.
