Quite wonderful and still boasting a good amount of fruit. Pouring through a filter into decanter helped with any sediment (plus, the cork broke). Well balanced, dark fruits, earthy components, and more. Really love Jeff's wines when aged.
Sadly my last bottle of this vintage, will always be a favorite. Still tasting great with plenty of well integrated fruit spice and acidity. Long live the Pottymouth!

My last bottle of this vintage. Absolutely fantastic. Paired well with the lamb in the Mediterranean food we brought in, mixed results with the other parts of the meal. But still drinking wonderfully, but needs no more cellar time.

A wonderful pop-n-pour, still with a big bold nose -- dark fruit (blueberry, blackberry, plum) and earthy spice. A slightly tart, but fruity plum and blueberry on the palate finishing with hints of vanilla and a big burst of peppery spice (and a bit of oak) on the finish. Wine is still going strong, with tannins well integrated and a balanced acidity.

Suffered slightly due to the wine competition this evening (this bottle was a last minute placeholder between the first and second decanters)...but it only suffered slightly and more than held it's own for the price. Again, I'm astounded at the QPR and how this wine is holding up and continuing to evolve.

Consistent with previous notes. Drank without decanting, and the wine was fully softened after an hour in the glass. While my last bottle could hold another year, it won't be given the chance.

A great value (I picked some up for under $15) and showing wonderful secondary notes at this point in its evolution. I need to pick some more up at this price since it seemed to have years of life left. This bottle was popped and poured and didn't last long, but it did keep improving with air...

Slightly cloudy magenta-rose red. Jammy raspberry, blueberry and wet soil on the nose (no funkiness this time). Dark cherries and plums, leather, cola, good acid, drying tannins, and a medium to long finish. Better with food than without, but quite good overall. Day 2: Smoother, more blackberries, a touch woodier, and tastier on its own. Earns an extra point: 89.

Juicy berry flavors. Nicely balanced - good fruit, with a little spicy bite. Very new world fruity Rhone style blend. A bit hot on opening, but it settled down after decanting. Even better on day two. Distinctive finish. Yummy.

Dark ruby color, a little cloudy. Interesting nose of spicy red raspberry and cherry along with cherry cough crop and grape bubble gum aromas. Total red fruit palate with medium acid and tannin. The fruit is quite dominant and the finish is slightly sweet. Medium body. Overall a tasty wine that leans very much toward the new world style of grenache blends.

This is a nice example of California Rhone and is showing well right now. A Rhoniish leather, meat and spice on the nose. The mourvedre seems to dominate here. On the palate, nice cherry and peppers and spices. Good finish. Not tannic at all. Nice elegance and balance, despite the name.

I really liked this wine and it paired well with pizza. If served blind I would have guessed pinot noir as the nose exhibited many characteristics of a pinot (blackberry, strawberry, spice). Great soft mouth feel with hints of leather and well integrated tannins, nice acidity and a good 30 second finish. Wish I had more in the cellar.

Deep burgundy red in color. Dark berry, vanilla, spice & leather on the nose. Fully dark spicy earthy berry on the palate. Pretty long finish with decent though smooth tannins. Some bitter cocoa on the finish. Score upgraded from the originally 88 to an 89 on the second night. It has gotten SO much better. It's more plum with cherry black pepper spice with a finish of french vanilla ice cream.

Dark ruby color. Very expressive nose of barnyard, saddle leather, tobacco leaf, black cherry, blackberry, cedar spice, cloves, cinnamon, black pepper & cocoa. Medium body, with good acidity & smooth tannins, but a bit hot. The palate has everything: lots of very dark fruit, a full cupboard of spices and a leathery, cocoa powder finish. Very nice wine

Slightly murky dark burgundy colour. Nose is dark, intense, a little bitter. Dark fruits, spice, earth, leather.
Surprisingly fruity! Intense black cherry, and some berries too - strawberry, blackberry. Jammy, almost, but very bright and bold. Quite hot, but bearably so. Medium bodied with decent tannins and good acidity lends a pleasant tartness. A bit heavy on the oak (this wine's greatest flaw), though it balances the fruit & provides some structure. Finish lingers nicely with lots of spice (clove, black pepper, allspice), leather and dirt.

On opening: black cherry nose over a bit of blackberry, with a touch of plum, leather, and a hint of spice. Blackberry and black current upfront, with moderately strong tannins coming in quickly. More plum and a little blueberry from mid-point to the moderately long finish, with the plum note ghosting on for some time. Good acidity without being overwhelming. A very drippy bottle, and some heavy sediment
+60 minutes Much more leather on the nose. More plum upfront, the tannins have softened, and the acidity a trifle more pronounced on the blue fruit finish. Otherwise, the above comments stand.
+90 minutes Leather and smoke even stronger, but the fruit remains much the same. The acidity is also a bit tamer.

Garnet color with just a sliver of translucency. Wonderful nose of leather, dark fruit, spice and a hint of floral and is what I enjoy most about Rhone blends. Good acidity on the palate with some mineral/slate components showing through along with the dominant dark fruits. Medium finish with the dark fruit and minerality lingering just enough. Would def be a good match with a meal.

Was able to concentrate on this bottle much more tonight, chose it to pair with some cumin-tomato-lamb ragu on WW spaghetti. Nose it all spicy-dark berry, tantalizing! Lots of juicy acidity in the mouth with clove, blackberry, medium length finish. Love this *@#&@!! Enjoyable to drink solo, perfect pairing with hearty spiced foods.

Not a very complex wine, however, a very nice one nevertheless. Decanted for about 30 minutes. Nose: sweet plum and brown sugar. Palate: Simple. Sweet. Smooth. Still the brown sugar. Some plum. Maybe black cherry. Not long or lingering. Appearance: Light brown edges, not able to see through it, with mostly a dark pink/purple color. Good leg. I would say that this wine is good for those people who like whites only. It isn't complex, mild to no tannins, smooth, and on the sweet side (but not fruit bomby." Cheers!

In my mind I had the thought that this was a bottle to be saved for food (based on previous experience). But it was accidentally opened tonight (thought I had snagged the viognier as a porch sipper...realized my mistake as the cork came out) and was sipped on its own as a result. Nose: much more fruity than I remembered, some definite slate and a bit of spice. Palate: Hint of pepper with subtle fruits, more minerality and a very subdued personality. Not that it is bad - I quite like it. It's simply not a center-stage kind of wine. Finishes with some metal and earthy pungency. Unique, and well-thought out. I will save my last bottle for a meal, but I'm not unhappy by the mistake.
72 hours later: has started to show first signs of oxidization. Drinking up!

Calaveras County Wine Tasting (The Twisted Oak Winery, and Murphys, CA.): This twisted wine, known colloquially as "The Fuck," was med+ garnet/purple in the glass. The nose was a duet of mellow brett and fruit - cherries and blackberries. In the mouth, this wine was light yet beautifully concentrated, with bright acidity and firm med- tannins. Cherries and strawberries shined through in the midpalate. My only complaint was that brett lingered the longest on the finish. Though I don't mind brett, that's not the way I want to finish a wine. This was the only wine I picked up from the Murphys trip, and I can't wait to try it with food! $24
From what I recall of enjoying this at a BBQ I hosted, it was very tasty, full flavored, nice fruit and finish. All my guests enjoyed it and few were familiar with Rhone wines. As I did not enjoy as part of a tasting and was busy grilling, notes are rather scarce but I'll seek out another bottle to more thoroughly enjoy.

bottle open on the counter for 1.5 hours. on the noese, a little rubber dust, and some overripe blackberries. Nice. On the palate a taste of smoked meats with a rich midpalate, very smooth, that transitions perfectly to the finish with just a hint of spice. My only complaint at this point was that the finish was a tad too ‘hot’ (alcoholic) to me. against a lesser wine (grocery store chianti), the Twisted Oak retained it’s lovely charred sausage personality, complete with bloody fruit and even some stone and dirt. After a bit of air, the alcoholic nature of the finish dissappeared. WONDERFUL food wine.

Color (4/5): a rusty, purplish garnet color that turns clear about 2mm from the edge. I can see through the disk at all points. The color does not stick to the glass and after swirling, legs take anywhere from two to ten seconds to roll down three inches of glass. Nose (12/15): Upon opening, the first thing to hit is the leathery scent of Syrah, which is immediatelty followed by toasted blueberry PopTart with some blackberry in the filling. After about 40 minutes decanting, the leather nose has subsided quite a bit, giving way to the PopTart filling and a bit of petrol/pork fat. Definitely a "New World" nose. Palate & Finish (16/20): Initial attack kind of hot with a bit of sour cherry. The tannins are very smooth; to the point that I really don't notice them. After decanting, the palate comes alive and changes from second to second. Soft attack still with sour cherry on leather. This melts into some sort of dark fruit, 90+% cacao baking chocolate, and tar (not necessarily in that order) mid- to back-palate where it's joined by bacon. Then in that spot on the roof of my mouth where the bitterness hits me, is is a moderately long finish of softened suede, Coca-Cola Blak, bacon, and baking chocolate, and some soft tannins (oddly asserting themselves more after decanting). Potential (6/10): This wine is pretty together right now so I can't see sea-change development over time. However it has some structure to it and should certainly last 5-8 years more. An excellent example of a California Rhône style blend. If you know and love true Rhônes, you might find it wanting in some ways. It's definitely a "New World" blend. If you like Rhône blends of the new world, you'll find it squarely within your expectations and enjoy every sip. If you're new to Rhônes, this is a good starting point that will expose you to some of their idiosyncracies without drowning you in them. 4+12+16+6+50=88

Quite austere at this point. Popped and poured which was a mistake, because this wine came into it's own after about an hour or so. Very Enjoyable, but I needed it to open up a little more. Thats ok though, I have more that I will try later for a Day 2 test. .....
On this gloomy day on Eastern Long Island... day 2 on this wine. Little parmigiano reggiano and a baguette...some soppresseta... perfect match with this wine. Getting dusty berries and soft tannins through the nice finish.
