  • Had my second and last bottle last night. Almost identical tasting notes as when I wrote it for 8/2021, the wine has had more time to develop in bottle, more elegant and balanced. The nose is still incredible with lychee, lemon, pineapple, cantaloupe, refined acidity and a nice finish that is all built to pair with food, especially with seafood or pork that already has some intensity in the sweet sour savory umami territories of profiles . As with any vintage of this, hold for much longer to reap best rewards. Sadly didn’t get to enjoy this fully as my bottle was unfortunately shared, and my glass was gone before I could pour myself extra as there were a a few savages at the dinner table. You know, the type that don’t bring wine but will gladly drink your gold and fill the glass 3/4 way then down it like competition shots. Share only with people who appreciate and understand.

  • Took the 2018 Weinbach Schlossberg Cuvee Sainte Catherine Alsace Riesling Grand Cru to a Cantonese restaurant. I think I also had the non cuvee version earlier in the year, and can say that the cuvee was far more aromatic (you get what you pay for) and so much better in many ways. This had beautiful notes of pineapple, some lychee, a little bit of muscat and peach, as the wine opened up more in the glass over the course of the meal. Delightfully dry with mineral characteristics that didn't detract from the drinking experience (nor food pairing), and it was a heavenly match with Cantonese sweet and sour pork (overly indulgent and extravagant I might add, given the wine costs 4 to 5 times more than the entree!!) Already approachable, elegant, and robust, but will give you so much more complexity with further time in the cellar.

  • A little shy on the nose. But good, clean Riesling character. Green pear, honeysuckle, white flowers, chalky minerals.

Drinks dry and clean, not too acidic which is nice. Beautiful round weight.

    Paired lovely with Indian stew.

  • Tasting of 2018 Domaine Weinbach with Catherine Faller (Kaysersberg, France): Riper peach aromas than the regular Schlossberg. Off dry and spicy. Again, just average acidity but excellent soil base. Falls off toward the end. I'm not too impressed with this either.
