Color: Distinct, vibrant purple at its core fading out to solid edges with no transparency.
Nose: Quite deep, full, and voluptuous showing vibrant youth in this developing body! Fragrance of plums, blackberry, ripe cherry, and dark fruits. This exhibits subtle characteristics of coffee, leather, earth, and spice like cinnamon and a citrus just chillin’ off in the background.
Taste: WOW! Smooth, Silky, and velvety . . . . . just simply superb. A fantastic representation of what a Cali red Zin should be. Stunning! Plenty of chewy red ripe fruit with nice notes of fruit, chocolate, creamy coffee, and a hint of tobacco. Plums, blackberries, cherries, and a spicy kick to take it up a notch, that leads you down the road of a nice long, winding finish. This is a wine that is drinking GREAT right now, but could also stand to use a couple of years in the cellar to calm down those adolescent tannins.

Retail $38. The Frank Family has been making wine in Calistogasince the 1990s and this Napa Valley Zinfandel is a good representation of the "house style." Fairly big and plenty bold, this nearly translucent wine exudes plenty of dark berry fruit (blackberry and blueberry) with some Christmas spice and a touch of heat (14.8% abv). The palate is fruity. Really fruity (blackberry, plum). There is plenty of tartness that tries to keep that fruit in check, and a touch of tannin on the finish. Big and fruity (have I mentioned the fruit?), but nice. thedrunkencyclist.com

Virtual tasting with Rich & Leslie Frank along with winemaker Todd Graff.
Very aromatic nose of boysenberry, crushed cranberry and fresh asphalt paved road. On the palette the wine is rich and berry laden with a touch of heat in the finish. Spiced and creamy with an acidic bent that tells me it could benefit from some time. Each sip reveals more creaminess. Well done

A few California wines: Vibrant purple color. Inviting aromas of juicy plums, raspberries, candied black cherries, with lavender, cocoa, vanilla. Full-bodied, suave and velvety tannins, moderate acidity. Rich black cherries, raspberries and blueberries, tossed with violets, cocoa, mint, sweet pipe tobacco. Floral, coffee and vanilla elements linger on the finish. Complex and harmonious, this should open up nicely over the next few years.

Plum, vanilla, a bit of pepper, but not with the usual Zin bite. Balanced.

Frank Family makes a very nice Zinfandel. Blackberry, alot of black pepper, licorice. Paired nicely with a spicy pepperoni pizza

Very well done Napa Zin, bold dark berry flavors that last thru the taste, gets more complex as it sits.
