  • Christmas Eve dinner at Wimborne. Drank in Grassl Cru. Pop and poured and then explored from decanter over 2 hours.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of peonies, strawberries, pure red cherries, red pomegranate, cranberries, very fresh mineralic earth. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), super smooth silky medium- tannins, medium body initially. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of strawberries, pure red cherries, red pomegranate, some tart cranberry, minerals, very fresh earth. Initially only medium finish seemingly falling short but just making me keep wanting to drink more of it. SILKLY SEXY JUICE I COULD DRINK ALL DAY ALL NIGHT.
Gradually put on more weight (rightly Grand Cru so) over the course of the night and finish became very long.
Excellent quality. Wasn't so sure about drinking this young, but this exceeded all expectations. Inspirational wine. Going into the end of 2023 on a high note.

  • Domaine Hudelot Noellat sold one of their parcels in the lower part of Clos Vougeot in 1998 to improve the quality of the final blend. Juicy red blackberries, fleshy red cherries and rich minerals. A powerful and broad-shouldered Clos Vougeot but arguably not as attractive as the Malconsorts. (89-90/100)
