  • Wednesday night wines (Chez Pavlovich, Westchester-LA California): The nose is clearly young and a little tightly wound at first. As it opens up, there is some raw power that is held back with an underlying elegance that really works for me with deep tones of plums, dark red cherries, raspberries, strawberries, herbs, spice notes, violets, roses, crushed rocks, a touch of sandalwood, and perfumes. The Medium bodied feel shows excellent depth and balance with a lovely deft touch and lengthy finish that doesn't want to stop. The structure is clearly youthful with tart, medium+ acidity and chewy, medium+ tannins. This is wonderful. It'll likely need the better part of a decade+ to truly reveal itself, but I'm already a massive fan of what's here already.

  • -- double-decanted 3.5 hrs before first taste --

NOSE: perfumed; a touch cracker-y (oak?); a bit high toned; hint of bitter orange peel; moderately expressive --- the air time did help it open somewhat, as it was quite closed upon opening.

    BODY: medium-light bodied.

TASTE: oaky; tannic; smooth red fruits; pointless to buy for drinking today --- this needs lots of time to absorb the oak and develop complexity --- although the air time did help this somewhat, it still never got to a point where I thought, "Yeah, not necessarily a bad idea to open this now." --- just don't. Strong Hold recommendation.
