  • Excellent wine.
Very deep golden color, nose is mature, very intense with flower, white fruit, marzipan.
In the mouth it feels almost a dry wine, with only a slight hint of honey. It’s chalky, mineral, waxy with same flavour of baked quince and apples.
    Very long and very intense.
    Wonderful wine.

  • Don't often say this about a white wine; but I really should have cellared this wine longer. Last and best of my bottles of this vintage and a really fine honeyed wine. Seems like it will last for many years more.

  • Midweek with the GMs: Mint, mineral, chalk, smoke and spices with marzipan as well. Really lovely balance, with great acidity and a good lick of sweetness. Carries really well. Slowly developing, another 10 years should put it in a really good spot.

  • Delicious. Wonderful, intense balance of honey and vibrant acidity. Very diverse food pairing option.

  • This was fabulous. Hay, spiced honey, nuts, and citrus on the nose carried through on the palate. The core of acidity gives this great freshness and life. Hard to believe this is a 14-year old white.

  • Sour apple on the nose, with hints of grapefruit and marzipan. Crisp apple and fino sherry flavors predominate, suggesting excess acetaldehyde, although not so much as to make it unquaffable. I'm not sure what happened to the demi in demi-sec as the wine comes across as quite dry, albeit with a round and pleasant mouthfeel. Overall an interesting, challenging wine, but not one I'd want to drink every day. DAY 2 UPDATE: This was better on the second day -- although the apple and fino sherry notes were still fairly prominent, the wine came across as more balanced and, frankly, pleasurable. The presumed hint of RS showed up more as a sense of richness and fullness of body, rather than sweetness per se. I would drink this with roast chicken or turkey.

  • Huet Masterclass with Jean-Bernard Berthomé and Sarah Hwang: Just starting to deepen past light straw in colour. Pear, ash, oriental spice/sandalwood, chalk and minerals - really rocking on the nose. The sweetness seems to be of a similar level to the 07 Le Mont it was next to (I looked it up later, and this is 23g/l vs 20g/l for the Le Mont) but the acidity is a step up in level and it gives it superb spark and verve. Pure fruit and rather delicious, it is just starting to hit its straps and is delivering in a superb way. Now-10 years.

  • Much leaner, drier, and fresher than expected - neither sweet nor rich, but certainly zesty, tangy, and full. Flavor profile hard to describe - some kind of pleasantly bitter citrus moving into a kind of grilled golden raisin - unlike anything I've yet had. Firm acid and minerals, solidly structured, and so probably no extreme hurry to drink. Very nice experience, but lacking some kind of deliciousness or charisma to make itself unforgettable.

  • Birthday Celebration 2014 (Extra Space): Popped and poured.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, yellow lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of honey, honeysuckle flowers, chrysanthemum, wet stone minerality, lemon, lime, and melon. Some very slight oxidative element. Developed.
On the palate, medium-dry sweetness balanced with medium+ acidity, medium alcohol, medium+ body. Medium+ flavor intensity, with flavours of honey, honeysuckle flowers, chrysanthemum, wet stone minerality, lemon, lime, and melon. Enjoyable drinking with elegance and beautiful balance, but lacks a greater complexity.
Very good quality. Drink up now, I think this may not improve with further age.
Apparently for 2001, the Huet demi-sec is the most successful style for the vintage.

  • Les Gueules Noir Restaurant
66 Rue de la Vallee Coquette, 37210 Vouvray, France.

Opened bottle and warmed on the table.
    Yellow gold in colour.
Honeyed nose of citrus and florals.
Silky mouthfeel, full bodied, honey, grapefruit, orange tangerine up front and thru the mid palate with an underlying zesty minerality and tangy acidity all at once.
    Goes down long and strong.

  • Honey, ripe apple and other fruit on the nose. The medium-bodied palate continues with the same ingredients, with the mineral acidity balancing the residual sugar. Ripe and rich, but a bit on the expense of freshness.

  • Rich on the nose, a wall of honey and an array of ripe fruits. A good bit of oriental spices and herbs as well. Wide on the palate. The rounding amount of sugar(23 grams, to be exact) can be felt there, but there's acidity to balance. But it's not quite as fresh as I expected. Yes, these wines are famous for their aging, but I wouldn't keep this for decades.

  • probably drunk at that time mid-week, not as satisfying as hoped, solidly good but not great - or did I not give it the attention it deserved?

  • Yellow gold. Great nose of smoke and apples. Medium to full bodied with great intensity. Sweet apple flavors dominate the mid palate. Medium acidity. This might need a bit more integration. I love Huet Vouvray and this is the closest to a one note version that I've tried. The magic is there, but needs a few years to bloom. Nice long finish.
