Love letting these ATP selections age a bit. Leather, resin and cherry compote followed by bruised raspberries and some menthol. Lacked some depth but still mouth-coating and pleasurable. Drink now. Paired nicely with chicken burgers with zatar, mint, and garlic.
Big juicy fruit on P&P. Within 20 minutes softened and gained some complexity. Fruit remained and well balanced. Pretty delicious now but no rush to drink now seems like it will go a while

Medium-dark red color with limited transparency. Aromas of plum, red berry, and sweet olive. Palate has berry, herb, olive, and cherry notes that lead into a medium finish with some vanilla and dusty tannins evident. This seems to lack the stuffing to go long. Drink up.

Fruit takes a back seat to slightly dusty solid body. A good match for sausage last night, and spicy flank steak tonight. (More open and approachable the second day,)

A Saturday at home with Steve, Sue, Pam and Harry. Enjoyed a 3-year vertical '05, '06, '07. The '06 was the smoothest to me, the '07 the most interesting.

Nose - forward smoke, dried herbs and gorgeous spices, with red and black fruit, earth and savory mushroom. Smooth, spicy raspberry jam, with touches of oak spice, lime zest and pith. Young but delicious. Drink now-'15.

Nice purple garnet. Clarity. Kind of a sweet raw dried meat nose, bit smoky. Blue dried fruit soaking in the oak. Lite feel, but nice depth on the palate, tannins and acid perfect still, and enough fruit to show improvement over next couple years. A nice effort. 2 Hour decant, perfect. Bit of heat, alch weight now 4 hours on. Holding together so very well. Right now could smash a Kobe steak to death, the finish is huge aged Cali fruit, sweet and with depth, acid and tannins sweep it all away, yum.

Pretty dark for a Carignane. Lovely sweet, black cherry compote on the nose with a bit of vanilla. Love the nose. Big, juicy, black cherry compote in the mouth too! Love it. Acidity is nice, tannins are present, but this is not a long ager, but just lovely tonight. Great job Ridge!

Saturday night, Lee, Lisa and Sam - back from Cornell - Zoe drop-off. Burger night (beef and lamb). Vertical of '05, '06, '07 Buchignani Ranch Carignane. The '05 - best first sip of the three - then after some time the '06 and '07 show better - but the last sips of each the '05 is re-opening. Interesting results.

Medium cherry red in the glass. Bright aromas of Draper perfume, red fruits, and a touch of vanilla. On the palate, this is sweet and expressive, but holds itself in check from becoming jammy or hot. Like sipping a cherry pie filling parfait with some floral elements and spice elements giving some depth to the experience. A good effort and drinking well right now.

Hmmm. Dark, vanilla oak fruit on the nose. Feels watery at first, extracted fruit comes through mid palate with cherries, alch is there & hard to ignore, finish just fades quickly. Acid and tannins in balance so I think not an ager but not going anywhere. Still fine to hold for a while as most Ridge are, but I am uncertain of it's LT potential.
Bumped this up a point on a second night where the complexity emerged. Richer, a hint of Choc? Very nice, so maybe this is a Ridge ager...

Chateau Pennywood Double Blind Tasting (Lisle, IL): Popped and poured. Dark, opaque color. Wonderful fruity nose of sour cherries and spice, hint of vanilla. Full bodied, alcohol present but well integrated. Sour cherries, spice, nice oak and some vanilla.

My first Carignane and my first of the ATP wines. Popped and poured. Dark, opaque color. Wonderful fruity nose of sour cherries and spice, hint of vanilla. Full bodied, alcohol present but well integrated. Sour cherries, spice, nice oak and some vanilla.
Quite nice, and I can only assume this will open up as the night goes on. However, this is very gulpable, so may not last all night. Stay tuned (maybe).

Fruit as mellowed, tastes of the earth with spice notes. One of the favorites from the Ridge Carignane flight tasting.

Tasted like a nine year old Carignane. Still had some fruit left but past its prime. Dry, dusty, bramble, black fruits. Drink up!

Mediocre. Tart cherry from the get-go. No complexity, no depth, no flavor. Drank like a bad glugger.

Not enough sweet fruit to balance the acid. Maybe another year or two will soften this up and make it more balanced
