Nose: Old library, dusty earth, petrichor; dark raspberries; really great. Palate: The palate disappoints with unbalanced and very sour red cherry, which is in strange contrast with a moderate to moderately low acid backbone; no tannins left to speak of.

We opened this on December 5, 2022. Stored 500 ml in 500 ml bottle with no head room, and drank the remainder on December 22, 2022, with a beef stew with olives and capers. The nose initially had very little fruit or fragrance but then opened up to smell like cherries. The taste began on a sour note and ended on a sour cherry and tannic note. The consensus in this household is it’s not ready to drink.

Fruit not as strong here, quite sauvage and a little earthy/savoury. Much cooler on the nose than the Galichets; creamy texture. Nice fruit, very nice drinking but for me the Galichets pips it.

Nice cab franc aromatics. Opens with a lot of cool, clean, very pure red berry fruit, with just a faint sweetness providing an indication of the vintage. But after some air, the tannins and the acid—both of which are prodigious—clamp down hard. Needs a long sojourn in the cellar, after which it should be outstanding.

Domaine de la Chevalerie Visit with Vintage '59 (Restigne): Brief tasting note, cellar visit and lunch with Stephanie. Pepper, tobacco leaf, earth, with nice red floral aromatics (violets). Very open today, this is typical even in a structured vintage like 2015 and Breteche can always be drunk at a younger age, per Stephanie.

Flat-out not ready to drink. Big wine, with strong mineral character. But it just ain't ready, it is closed , tight, and a bit mean. Open 2030?

Pronounced nose intensity with red fruits, red cherry, earth, green bell pepper. Medium+ acidity and medium body.
