Fresh yet oaky chardonnay from cool climate Elgin, SA. Complex nose - pastry, tangerine and vanilla - with almond flakes in the background. Balanced, fresh acidity. Long length. Yum!

Did not expect to like this wine as much as I did. Pale yellow. Apple, quince, pear and a hint of burnt match. Incredibly attractive and intense orchard fruits with a bright beam of minerality that lights up the palate. Long and persistent finish.

Canary yellow with green edges, the nose reveals burnt match, rock dust, gentle oak spice, almond, macadamia nut and a gentle florality. A vibrant, crisp, fresh entry has far more fruit than expected from the nose. The mid-palate fleshes out with the ripe apple, Meyer lemon, peach, nuts and a pinch of sea salt on the finish. A bright wine with great intensity has a gentle richness, making it very approachable. Good clean, precise lines.

Initially came across as quite rich fruit salad with buttery oak background. Settled down with food and half an hour in the glass to become a high quality nicely balanced SA Chardonnay

SA New Arrivals Zoom Tasting. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs. Nose medium intensity, with aromas of citrus lemon, light flint and stone minerality, buttered toast oak. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium+ body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of toasty oak, citrus lemon, tangerine, almond nut, butter cream. Long finish. Very good quality. Keywords here are restraint and balance. Oak is present but in a very reasonable amount. Should develop nicely over the next 3 years.

Not as impressive as the 2016 but still a nice Chardonnay with plenty of toasty oak. Lacks a bit of fruit and minerality in comprison.
