  • Kleur: Diep donkerrood.
Reacties welkom. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 15 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 90/100

Colour: Deep dark red. Aroma / bouquet: Seductive bouquet with a subtle hint of rose petals, red fruit and marzipan. Taste / Aftertaste: Seductive in the nose, in the mouth especially sturdy and - after 12 years - even somewhat angular. Serious, slightly drying tannins with a pronounced bitterness. In itself nice qualities for a wine such as Barolo, but for a Napa Cab of 12 years old I'm worried. Imbalance between smell and taste.... General / potential: Tough 'second Promontory', but with limited complexity and - after 12 years - a bit too much angularity... And Yes, I also came to that conclusion with the 2013 Matriarch I tasted yesterday ;-).
    Disagree with my findings? I like to learn…. Comments welcome. 50 + Colour: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Taste / Aftertaste: 15 + General / potential: 8 = 90/100

  • A bit jammy, not precise.

  • Beautiful wine. Over the 90 minutes, deep dark opaque red wine flashed dark chocolate, dark fruits, pencil lead and graphite notes. Lasting 30-45 second finish

  • This was a fine Cali cab , some green peppers , juicy , big , less spine more fruit.

  • Classic Napa but not over-done or over-ripe. This could still use 3-5 years as the tannins were pervasive although fine grained.

  • I have some opinions on Promontory wines oh yes I have opinions. However, this remains the best of the ones that I have had. This is a good wine, but my issue with these is while they are the second wine most of the time they have little to do with the Grand Cru bottling. Different style, different methods, different sources. It almost strikes me as a way to get rid of young fruit at a high price (its Harlan which means far too high). Very good but not worth the current ask and the consistency is all over the place with these.

  • Great fruit. Very refined. Big brother of mascot.

  • This original and energetic Cabernet needs a few more years to hit its stride, but it does a good job of approximating the profile of Promontory (i.e., rustic yet modern), with a little less depth and richness. Cherry red in color; medium in body; nose of sandalwood, black cherry, pine needles, and rhubarb. The flavors are similarly original, with notes of blackberry, underbrush, trail dust, cocoa beans, and peppercorn. 14.8% alcohol. Decant at least three hours if drinking now, but ideally wait. 94+ at the moment, with upside in 2022 or later.
