Buxom and also a little strident. It’s that bi-polar creature that is Barbera, with all sorts of fruit richness, and a touch of volatility that brings extra lift to the acidity. This is better with food that tames the acidity, but it is still enjoyable on its own. Drink soon to enjoy the exuberance.

Dark red in the glass, nose bursting of red fruit. Not as earthy as typical Italian barberas bust a slight hint of that Italian dust. Bright red fruit, with a slight sourness on the palate. Almost a bit of fizz. So good.

Zoom Tasting with Sam Bilbro, Winemaker/Proprietor Idlewild Wines: Dark ruby in the glass. Nose of fresh red berries, very bright and aromatic. On the palate, it is very fruity and juicy, so good. Acidic but well integrated. Tasted with Sam the winemaker over zoom.

Succulent, dark red fruit backed by blistering yet entirely appropriate acidity...it finds its stride when accompanying a pizza, where the fat of the pie marries to the acidity of the wine. Then it’s pretty much perfect, as so many of the Idlewild wines are with food.

Winery pour. Juicy black raspberry and herbs, big bodied and happy, surprising weight with a sweet finish. Biggest red in the lineup. $40
