On opening this immediately stikes with a forward chocolate cherry and berry nose. Soft on the palate, very smooth, no tannins left and the acidity begins to crack after just a few moments in the glass. Ultimately after a a few sips, this becomes a little tired and tiring due to the lack of acidity. Decent, but probably past its peak.

Deep ruby red with aromas of earthiness, spice (black pepper), cassis, blackberry, raspberry, with some woody elements. Pretty smooth - L-M tannins, M acidity, with flavors as per the aromas. Overall a nice smooth wine that is definitely ready to drink now.

Black Cherry is prominent on the nose. Black cherry continues on the palate along with chocolate...and...and...and...curry? Wow...lotsa curry, in a good way. Almost like drinking an Indian dish. Anyway, last bottle, and I'll miss this one, especially for the price I got it at.

Similar to the last bottle. First night - a little barnyard on the nose, with some tar and thick, black fruits. Pleasant tannins and a great finish for a $10 bottle. 2nd night - barnyard gone, but tar still there. Can't really offer any complaints at this price.

Initially on open 5pm: Dark ruby/purple color. Almost looks unfiltered (though I do not think that is the case), as it is rather murky. Interesting nose (some of which smells spoiled and not good), not real sure of what, but some spice and dark fruit, perhaps with some tar and coffee. Will have to see how this opens up over a couple hours. On the pallate, good red fruit, especially cherry, and some acid, not real tannic. Not a lot of length or mid-pallete. Almost wonder if this is a bit corked (due to the murkiness and smell), as Leasingham's have always been a good 88-90 wine consistently. At this point 85.
7 hours later (midnight) - much, much better. Strange to settle down this much. Nose no longer has the spoiled smell, instead black fruit, tar, coffee and a bit of burnt forest. Really, I am amazed at the difference in the nose from the 5pm tasting. Even the clarity is a bit better. Taste is much more balanced, better length, fruit is a bit more subdued (in a good way), with a bit of cocoa. At 13.5% alcohol, much lighter than a typical Aussie shiraz. Enjoyable. Would be giving this a 92 if the initial couple hours had been better.

Chocolate, leather, and a slight hint of dark cherry. Still balanced, soft tannins, but fading.

Tar, a little barnyard on the nose. Pepper, wrapped up in dark fruit. Great stuff for 11.50

This is a classic affordable Aussie Shiraz. Dark inky color, lot's of fruit with a mild finish. Buy it at Costco when they have it.

Big, smoky, toasty oak, chocolate, prune and blackberry nose. Full and assertive, ripe and well-balanced palate. Very long, toasty oak finish.
4/5
