Weekly tasting group #066; A fully blind test. (@ My place): Blood red. The bouquet seems to be a bit reticent, showing some cherries and metal. On the palate lush warm fruits and sweet spices. Improves with some more airtime. Ready now and the next 2 years.

Ripe dark fruits in the bouquet as well as on the palate. Good concentration. A touch of pleasant sweetness and good acidity. The tannin is round and soft. I am much more positive about this wine than 4 years ago, although there is no extreme complexity, finesse or depth.

Nose: Tart red fruit and cherry cheesecake (almost sour milk) Taste: Bright red cherry with a pleasantly dry and dusty mid-palate and a creamy raspberry finish.

I tasted this wine after the 2006. Left both bottles open for 2 days. The 2006 showed more and more complexity. The 2005 however showed more and more acidity and did not really improve. I hope this was just an off bottle, but I have my doubts. Attention! This is not a bad wine. Only at the moment not as good as 2006. One final remark: I paid less than $18 for the bottle, and that is the normal price. The community average of 2 users of $109.50 must be a mistake. Mistaken for the Chryseia itself? If not, someone earned a lot on selling this wine….

(SAQ 25$ : 2008-2013)

Wines In A Line: January - Chryseia; 1/12/2010-1/19/2010 (chez moi): Garnet. Cherry and spice on the nose. Balanced w/ soft tannins. Midweight. Nice finish. Mark has this tied w/ its big brother the '05. The group's 2nd favorite of the night.

Medium bodied douro, hot, nice and fruity bouquet. A lot of red fruit, specially plums and cherries, with a long finish. Very pleasent and typical.
