Increased a point this time. Still big and burly but more ready to drink. Two hour slow ox. We like our wines big and burly, this one met those requirements.

Compared to my prior note I must say this was a scintillating experience. Black gold, Texas tea...those of a certain age will understand the reference. Deep, dark purple in color, almost impenetrable. Great aromatics of sandalwood, and rich fruit notes. This wine presented beautiful depth and stellar flavors throughout. Smooth and delicious without evident heat. It took me back up on top of moon mountain on that glorious day we tasted there. I loved this offering and highly recommend.

Fantastic wine drinking exceptionally well right now. Deep, dark and full of flavor. Goes great with BBQ and steak, or simply sipping on its own. Can't go wrong with this one now.

Rarely do I describe a wine as having meat characteristics, maybe some early Wren Hop offerings. This Syrah started our with this primary characteristic. Very savory in flavor and attack. I let the balance sit overnight and while it snoothed out a bit there was still an inky, savory quality. Absolutely no ripeness or fruit forward qualities, which is fine, but not what I necessarily remeber experiencing at the winery. However, I admit it would be hard to replicate the view, ambiance and experience on top of the mountain talking with Robert. I will reserve overall judgement as I crack open the beautiful Cabs that await me. This Syrah is solid and without flaws.

Phenomenal wine. Right out of the bottle after popping the cork it delivered. Got better throughout the evening. Deep, dark and with a long finish. This wine will not disappoint and is drinking really well right now. Don't hesitate.

Pretty purple plum color. Displaying some classic Syrah notes day 1 - potpourri, floral bouquet, smoked meats, black pepper, massive black fruits and dark chocolate. Day 2 - looks just darker and the fruit took more of a Cabernet profile for a while. Slowly with glass decant added some sautéed flower notes, forest floor and more intense black fruits. Good acidity and chewy tannins on a long lip-smacking finish.

Super expressive and intoxicating notes of crushed flowers, bacon drippings, scorched earth, plowed soil, cracked pepper, sweet tar and sun-toasted rocks, warmly hugged by mix of dark, brooding and lush black fruits! Incredible velvety mouthfeel, coating acidity with ripe tannins on phenomenally long finish!

Medium Syrah fruit earthy nose. Full bodied wine with that extra something. Well balanced but still needs several years of cellaring. Chalky and jammy.

Four hour slow ox. Very deep dark purple color. Plum, jasmine, glazed orange, nutmeg, and cherry on the rich nose. Smooth, super dry, slightly peppery palate. Full, chewy tannins on the longish finish.
This is great, but clearly showing its youth at the moment. One more year should have this rocking and rolling.
Deep inky color, terrific syrah nose. Heavy tannins - I'll let remaining bottles lay down for 5+y. Decanted only about 90min. Will taste again tomorrow to confirm drink dates.

Very young burly wine in typical Herold fashion. Has all the components, give it more time to come together, suggest 2-4 more years.

Decanted for 6 hours. Candied nose, smooth and spicy finish. Will improve with age.
