This does require a good amount of air time (2-3 hours) before it opens up, but once it does - WOW! So much Tuscan character on both the nose and palate. More recent vintages of this (2006-09) have been made in a much "bigger", more modern/international style - with not as much prominence to the Sangiovese and less sense of place. This is a beautiful, textbook Super-Tuscan from a very good vintage that is now in its prime. Gorgeous aromas of plums, leather and spice on the nose. Full-bodied, but quite understated. Layer upon layer of tangy dark fruit flavor, complemented by the perfect amount of acidity. The long, complex finish contains notes of oak, spice, espresso and a hint of citrus. So satisfying, balanced and elegant. 50+5+12+17+8=92

Needs a long time to open, then after it does falls off quickly. During it's brief peak reveals a nice nose of toasty oak, olives, smoked meat, leather, and subtle underlying fruit. Finishes a bit pasty.

Saw this on close-out for $26.99 at a local wine shop and grabbed four bottles. Needs at least 2-3 hours in a decanter before it's ready. Has a powerful, attractive nose of earth, flowers, plums and ripe strawberries. Full-bodied, with lots of dark fruit character backed by a lively acidity. The complex finish offers ultra-fine tannins and notes of coffee and baker's chocolate, along with a hint of lemon zest at the very end. Quite different from later vintages, this is much more elegant and understated in style. A beautiful Toscana that is in its prime drinking window right now. Will be returning to the shop next week to clean them out. 91+ 50+5+12+16+8=91

When will I learn to let things open? Kept improving, but still remained too tight. Any food at all, even a bite of cracker or small piece of sharp cheese, improves it drastically. To be fair, the next bottles will get a much longer time to breath, perhaps even opening it the night before as some have suggested. Also think this can age for much longer.

Nose not overwhelming but good notes of cherries and oak. Taste, however is very impressive. In terms of elegance like a Burgundy, but at the same time with a richness and tannic structure characteristic of best super Tuscans. Chocolate, cherries, spices...

- Garnet color with fast forming legs and aromas of butterscotch, molasses and tobacco. It's somewhat balanced and has flavours of black olive, black currant, fig and black pepper with a medium/full body. Polished texture with a long finish.

I'll keep it brief. This still has 5 years of peak life left, but is a fantastic supertuscan that matches well with a lot of medium to heavier foods (we had with buffalo steak and mushrooms and it was amazing. I paid $24 and at this price it's a steal.

Opened and let breathe for 3 hours. Nose is dominated by dark plum and prune, as well as some raisin, cherry, blackberry, and mushroom. A touch musty. Lots more plum comes through on the palate, along with dark dried fruits, blackberry, blueberry, black pepper, clove, and coffee bean. Medium acidity, with a medium length finish, ending with cherry notes. Very good, and is starting to drink well

Wow - this is again a notch better than 6 months ago. Wonderful balance with nicely integrated subtle tannins. I think this wine is at its peak now, but since this was my last bottle I am thinking of buying another bottle or two to make sure that is really the case..

Surprised how nicely this has come together within less than a year. The color is still very dark with little evolution, and the nose somewhat muted but the tannins are much more integrated now. This is indeed an elegant wine now with a great balance of fruit and structure. Only the finish is somewhat short

RUSSK. 1st night (86pts) bitter and cheap tasting. 2nd night better (89pts) full bodied, showing some sweetness, roundness, pleasant aromatics. Yet still a bit rough, with some bitterness in the finish. Not a finese wine. Lisa liked. No need to buy more.

Very austere the first night. I poured half into the decanter and left it for 2 or 3 hours but even then it was closed, with dry tannins dominating. I left the other half in the bottle, put it in the cellar and tried it again the next day. A different wine. Rich dark fruit with black tea and hints of earth. Hits of stemminess on the finish. But overall an interesting and decent wine. Needs more time.

Cleary too young, with strong acidity and tanins not quite integrated yet. Though after 1 hour opened up, with good raspberry, blackberry and earthy tones. Chewy tanins after 2 hours. Goes thourgh a period of overly alchohol on the nose, but mellows out with black fruits and earth. Medium aftertaste.

Great wine. Much better than my previous bottle. Wine needs some air so decant it 2 hrs in front. Tertiair aromas, hints of leather. Nice.
