  • First Wednesday Wine Club (Bella Puglia, Five Dock): "Turkich delight, sweet spice, lychess are more concentrated here. Fleshy rather than juicy, dense, rich, concentrated turkish delight, honey, rose petal. Long
Better quality Alsace Gerwurz, young and probably from the same vintage

  • 2019 Zind-Humbrecht Gewürtztraminer

    APPEARANCE
This is a pale gold wine.

    NOSE
On the nose, the wine has pronounced aromas of lychee, white blossom, rose water, . The wine is developing.

    PALATE
Structurally, the wine is dry and has medium+ body, moderate alcohol, and low acid. It has a notable soft and oily texture.

The wine shines on the palate, showing medium+ intensity and flavors of fresh lychee, white blossom, cream, orange flower water, white pepper, allspice, lemon curd, latex, and honey in addition to the other aromas found on the nose. The wine has a medium finish, with mostly the lychee flavors lingering.

    QUALITY
The wine is balanced, with strong concentration of flavor and aromas, and some points for complexity and finish. There are some basic tertiary aromas, but they are rather faint, and the finish is medium but could be longer. Though it’s difficult with a low-acid grape, additional acidity would improve the balance. As is common for wines with pronounced floral aromas, the intensity on the palate struggles to match the intensity of the nose. It is of good quality.

    AGING POTENTIAL
This wine is delicious now and may continue to evolve in complexity for a few more years, but the acid structure is not conducive to long term aging.

    Paired exquisitely with korma.

  • This is a deceiving wine. Inviting aromas of lychees, gooseberries, stonefruit, and white flowers are laced by a kiss of botrytis. The palate, however, is slightly off, lacking sufficient cut and brightness, making this come across as heavy and clunky. A shame.

  • Very floral nose combined with notes of honey and orange blossom, highly viscus, and a bit of heat on the back. This is a very interesting wine that is extremely aromatic and quite unique. A fun wine to add to a tasting lineup. First bottle of a case I purchased nearly 2 yrs ago. I hope to space them out over the next decade to see how they evolve.

  • Appearance: honey colored

Nose: smells like a Sauternes, lychee, apple pie, candied apricot, white flowers, honey, overripe pear. Faint whiff of grapefruit.

Taste: big fruit upfront, followed by a touch of acidity and a pretty abrupt finish. Really big and somewhat flabby for Alsace. Must have been a warm year given the alcohol north of 14%.

Overall: Enjoyable wine but lacking in balance due to big fruit and insufficient acidity to reign it in.

  • Med lemon. Pronounced intensity, lychee, melon, muscat, lemon zest, pear, apricot, elderflower, petrol, ginger, white pepper.

Med+ acid, off dry, med body, med alcohol, med+ finish. Reductive PnP, needs some time (30+ min) to open up as it is immediately dominated by petrol and muted fruit. The nose is unbelievable, with the palette catching up about a hour later. Acid holds back the sweetness and comes off as an off dry gewurztraminer. Fairly complexed and already showing tertiary notes already indicating this can definitely go further. Can open now with some air or hold for another 2-3 years with upside. 89-90+ pts

  • clean
    clear gold
Lychee, orange blossom, hint of grapefruit
    off dry
    Medium minus acid
    Medium alcohol
Orange peel, lychee and a hint of phenolic bitterness on the finish
    Hint of dissolved CO2
The aromas are magical, but not enough acid to lift up the structure. Warm year?
    ~$24 as tasted
