  • Medium ruby and slight purple in colour, slightly opaque in the center, with a wide rainy, translucent rim.

Fresh fruits and slight leathery on the nose with fresh strawberries, raisins, cherries, raspberries, leather, and wet earth. The pinot funk is not as prominent as other pinot noir's that I've had.

Red fruit forward on the palate with fresh red fruit notes, similar to the nose - strawberries, raisins, raspberries, cherries. The tertiary notes come through on the mid palate with forest floor and wet earth, and finishes with a slight peppery and savoury note. Smooth and velvety with fine tannins, with all the notes all brought together by the fresh acidity, with a long, lovely finish.

This is already very approachable and delicious, and I can't wait to see how this develops over the next few years.

  • Needed a lot of time to really open up. Decanted for 15mins and then started consuming. Very closed down.

After it opened up over 2hrs, really shined. Some salinity on palate and nose. Cherry, fine grained tannins (surprising amount. Could last a while.), nice bright acidity. Some earthy and savory notes as well but primarily saline and cherry.

  • Subtle, graceful, perfumed - classy stuff the 18 vintage of the Hirsch Reserve. Deep ruby, fully translucent in the glass. Nose brings bright and intense cherries, raspberries, rose petals, spice, blood orange (and zest), herb undertones, exploding throughout bottle. Palate is remarkably medium+-bodied (13% right), ever so eloquent, savoury, excellent and vivid acidic structure, velvety, caressing tannins, great focus, precision and length. Hirsch keeping the legacy alive, embracing the purest expression of Cali PN.

  • From half bottle. My first experience with Hirsch after reading about them in the WS US Pinot issue. Cool story and vineyards with spectacular locations and terroir. Could only get the Reserve in half bottle and wanted to give it a shot. Red fruit notes including strawberry, raspberry, red currants and apple. Light-medium bodied with nicely integrated tannins. Very nicely done. Can age some, but in a good spot already.
