  • Relatively dark colour, nose shows dark berries, palate shows impressive concentration. Ripe character of the vintage shows but there is enough acidity to balance. Slightly heavier than I would prefer, but a solid wine that can improve further with a couple more years of aging. Drink or hold.

Note: this wine is sealed with a diam closure

  • Everything I like about burgundy. Dark ruby, almost purple and a far cry from the lighter styles of Pinot noir. The nose has a touch of funk and earthiness, giving way to a medley of red and dark fruits, maybe some baking spices. Medium acid and tannins on the palate, some notes of sour cherries and cola, medium length. All in all a fantastic Pinot noir from Marchand Tawse.

  • This wine pours light ruby in the glass with light flecks of pink and purple toward the rim. The nose grudgingly opens up, marred by a touch of youthful reduction. Dominant aromas of black cherry, plum, tree bark, and cola/sassafras, are complemented by faint notes of rose petal, red currant, moss, mineral, blood orange, and a touch of alcohol. The palate is youthfully structured entering on the cherry and plummy fruit, turning to medium tannin and acid. The finish pleasantly surprises with some of the faint rose petal and red currant action, and a notable sassafras component. All in all here we have much of what I like to find in a bourgogne rouge. Perhaps not quote as open and giving as I might hope for, even a little structured. According to the specs, which are wonderfully detailed on the Marchand-Tawse website this is 10% whole cluster with zero new oak. The fruit is sourced from a combination of Nuits-St-Georges, Marsannay, and Cotes de Beaune. There are aspects of the 2018 vintage on display here, but I must say it hides the 14% alcohol quite impressively. I wouldn't be surprised to see this blend in well with some higher priced wines, and equally age out quite nicely. In the scheme of current burgundy pricing, this has a fairly reasonable tariff at $32 CAD. I plan to buy more and see what a little age does for it.

  • Coravin glass. Another really nice Bourgogne. Off the charts QPR. Hard to believe this is $30. Restrained but interesting nose with flowers, spice, raspberry. On the palate this has shows a wonderful juiciness on the sour dark cherry side. Reminded me of a jolly rancher - in a good way - with a good kick of acidity.

  • Ruby-garnet, pink at rim; wild strawberries, black cherries, beets, earth, vanilla; cherry/strawberry, savoury, minerally, silky, light-medium body, tangy acidity, smooth tannins, nice finish.
Developed cherry cola notes as it opened up. Some ageability.
