Community Tasting Notes (7) Avg Score: 91.3 points

  • Good complexity on the nose. Elegant on the palate with fresh acid and medium tannins. Rather short finish.

  • Bright damson and pepper notes. Fresh on the palate and nice easy drinking. 3rd bottle of 6 - decent drinakable wine but nothing special and certainly no where close to the WA score (what were they thinking?). I don’t see this one improving much with age.

  • A laughably overrated wine. Part of me thinks that the WA reviewer who scored this 99 is getting paid by the producer. (I’ve seen lots of ridiculous reviews for the wines of this particular producer, none of which have impressed me in the slightest.). But part of me thinks that someone getting paid would try to give a score within the realm of reason — say, 93 — to avoid getting caught. Regardless, WA should fire its reviewer for consistently giving this ordinary (at best) producer absurdly high scores. (Note that the one CT reviewer who scored this 99 only has three reviews, and his/her name appears to be a business…).

Anyway, this wine tastes like sour red cherries and smells like ground fenugreek seeds and barnyard. It teeters on the edge of underripeness but has just enough ripeness to prevent it from being a drain pour. The finish is sour, so sour.

  • Closed and acidic at the start. Much better after a decent decant. Ripe cherries and dried apricots on the nose. High tannins and acidity - can see this being pared with game and gravy dishes. Probably a very well made cafignan single varietal but not something I have drink lots of. Good wine but not great. Medium level structure and shortish finish disappoints.

  • Medium ruby.
    Red fruits, aniseed nose.
    Medium bodied.
Red cherries, spice palate, fairly short finish.
Seriously underwhelmed (and disappointed) by this wine having seen the glorious RP rating and the other reviews on CT!
I don’t believe the bottle is corked but maybe my palate has deserted me…..
First of six, will revisit in a couple of years and hope for improvement in the wine or my palate!

  • Looking back over years of CT reviews, one finds a big disparity between consistently great pro ratings and mediocre collector ones. I'm no pro, but I do think highly of this wine. It's tart, sour, orange rind flavors will turn off some, but it came together well for me, as it can in natural wine reds. The light weight appeals as summer temperatures escalate. I decanted four hours before first taste and found the wine improved with post-cellar warmth.

  • This is a good wine - pretty expressive on the nose, with tar, cherry, raspberry, pepper, herbs. I don't know what the hell WA was thinking with their 99 score, but it is definitely not that. But, I like it.
