There is something very special about quality wines from Margaret River. Have several times in blind tastings thought I had drunk Bordeaux. Margaret River is a slightly cooler region, which creates wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines. Moss Wood belongs to the region's top 5 producers, this is their prestige Cabernet. Typical notes of cassis, blackberry, licorice, leather and a fantastic minerality. So well balanced and nice complexity, great wine! Will of course improve with time.

Deep and dark both colour and flavour. Nice and balanced. Almost slightly burnt fruit flavour. Dark and red fruits. Still very young, fresh and primary. (Not a patch on the 2010 La Conseillante drunk as comparison)

Cabernet (and blends) celebration (Ben and Estella's place, Parramatta): Served blind. Clean, blackcurrant, brambles, sweet spice, toast. Medium plus intensity acidity feels adjusted, tight tannins are grainy, sweet spice, blackcurrant, alcohol warmth on the finish. Nice fruit but the alcohol and acid are out of whack. Hmm.

Aromas of cassis, black cherry, black currents, leather, fresh herbs, florals, eucalyptus, smoke and peppercorn. The palate is medium to full bodied with a wonderful profile of dark lush fruit, savoury herbs, crushed violets and fine dusty tannins. This has both elegance and grace, even though right now this is all about the wonderful purity of fruit there is fantastic structure and focus. Very long finish. I am excited to see how this develops in the next 20 years and expect it to gain a point or so. 96+ Wine of the year?
What an incredible wine. Deep ruby with a nose of blackberry, dark Cherry, leather, dark chocolate and liquorice. Long palate of black currant, black olive, mulberry and bay leaf. Very chewy and enriching. 14.5% ALC. Will cellar for 3-4 decades but will I be able to leave them long enough to improve. Such a great wine.

Too young. Lovely but a little simple = still v enjoyable. Mulberry, coffee and tar. Very plummy and fruit driven. Spirited acid finish. Am sure will develop in time.

SLDS May 2021: Peppery, blackberry, spicy oak. Has a cool mineral spine to go with the red fruited palate. Good length and obviously good structure. All seems to be in place to develop really nicely.

Mosswood Zoom Tasting. Drank in Gabriel Standart. Appearance is clear, deep intensity, purple colour. Legs. Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberries, black cherries, tar/creosote/tobacco, underripe coffeebean, violets. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of smoke, tobacco, blackcurrant, blackberries, soft cassis, sweet dark spices. Very long finish. Excellent quality. Lots of potential for the future. Definite upside to cellaring. 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc.

Rumored to be the best vintage since 2001 and even though I have not tasted this 2001, this is a big step up from 2017. Though this will age specularly the purity of the fruit on this wine really shows. This has notes of dark bramble jelly, plum, cassis, graphite, cacao, fresh earth, and cardamom. The palate is fresh and pure with layers of dark black fruit, velvety savory tannins and milk chocolate, this has a soft mid-palate, yet real focus, and precision, every element feels in place which follows through to an elegant and rich finish. Everything is primary now, yet this has insane aging potential, this is the closest to Bordeaux I have ever tasted from Australia. 96-97
