  • A little tough to rate as it isn't my preferred style, but it felt well-executed, and really grew on me over the course of the evening.

The combination of rich, ripe, very fruity, even jammy tones with almost entirely *red fruit* isn't my favorite combination (it's why I don't drink tons of zin!)- and that vibe is very present here. With the weird blend I feel like the zinfandel is by far the most noticeable component, followed by the Sangiovese with a little extra sour red cherry on the palate. Otherwise this is mostly raspberry jam, rich, fairly aromatic, fun, just not as much my thing.

I have to say though- it improved dramatically with food. Salmon candy, smoked cheddar and other intensely-flavored things seemed to relax the wine a little bit, making it appear "cooler", a little less jammy, more of a ripe blueberry thing coming out. It was delicious and enjoyable with food, and felt kinda wacky without it. I say this as someone who places very little importance on wine/food pairings. Might be overrating it a touch- happy with it for $20, wouldn't pay much more than that.
