Subtle Brunello. Cherry on the nose, oak. Some secondary notes, graphite and stone. Thin, not a lot of extract Smooth tannins, well integrated. The wine shows some maturity. I do like this wine and buy consistently from the producer, but think of it as "Brunello light." It's not in your face, easy to drink but high quality. There's quite a bit more complexity than their Rosso, but it's still an easy, hot summer's day bottle.

I decanted my Poggio il Castellare and I poured it into Pinot glasses. It was served with Burgers, sauteed Mushrooms and Haricot Verts. There were three of us tasting and we came to a similar conclusion. The wine was a bit light, tannin was not a factor, and it wasn't anything spectacular. Ageing may improve this wine, but I won't predict much improvement.

Just bought a case based on a tasting yesterday. Nose of ripe cherry and currant. Not as “dusty” as some Brunellos. Medium weight. Still on the young side and likely to develop some more nuance over the next 3 years.

Good fruit, nice dryness and oak, but thin in the mid-palate with a decidedly short, weak finish. Expected more given WS 94 rating.
