Delicious wine. Surprised by the screwcap. First impression was tight and edgy with piercing acidity. Drank a bottle of Bollinger and let this one breathe for next hour. Wine was much more approachable after that time. Very Italian nose, beautiful tannic structure and very elegant on the palate. Heaps of red cherry fruit, herbs and warm earth. Long finish.

Super Tuscans - Berry Brothers; 6/28/2023-7/28/2023 (St James St, London): Classic ruby red. Med/full body, sweet and sour cherries, red and black cherry, brambles, orange nose. Herbaceous, floral, tannins opening, follows with pepper and acidity is fine and clean. Tannins continue to build, and are currently quite dominant. Fruit is very present too. This is an excellent structured wine which stands up to the tannins. Some age is likely to soften these.

The 2018 vintage of Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana is a lovely pale to medium ruby color in the glass. Despite being a young wine, it opens with magnificent aromas of cherry, raspberry, and vanilla, which are typical of this vintage. On the palate, the wine is impressive, with well-integrated fruit and oak flavors and earthy balsamic notes. The finish is long and features hints of tobacco and leather, which add complexity to the wine.
One notable aspect of this vintage is its excellent balance between fruit, acidity, and tannins, making it an incredibly enjoyable wine to drink. Furthermore, the wine is made from 100% Sangiovese, a grape variety that is known for producing some of the best wines in Tuscany. The winery, Isole e Olena, is renowned for its dedication to producing high-quality wines that showcase the terroir of the region.
Overall, the 2018 Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana is a stunning wine that is already drinking well but also has the potential to age gracefully for many years.
Brought for a wine night for Italian night at a friends. Funnily enough both of us brought the same bottle, the 2018 Cepparello. Bottles opened about 1.5hrs apart from one another, drank blind. They seemed like two different bottles. Definitely decant for 90mins plus. Sour cherries, raspberries, very peppery early with thick tannins.

This is always a good bottle especially if you can find it at around $70 (harder in the last few years). The 15% abv comes through in a good way to me and never pokes out/burns. The result is nice ripe cherry and plum accompanied by classic leather, dusty earthy, sandalwood, tobacco, vanilla…. There was some game and exposed oak at first but those mellowed after a day open. More full bodied than usual but great acidity and balance. Drink or hold for 10 years.

Tarry, dark berry, sweet spice, walnut, and leather on the nose. Flavourful and distinct palate with elegant integration and balanced grip; very good length with a mineral essence emerging on the finish. 4.5/5

Super solid, better with air… probably would deserve a higher score with some air and a better temp, but ordered at a restaurant with no decant and room temp.

I expected to like this more than I did. It is a well made wine, just not what I tend look for with Sangiovese. Maybe in 10-15 years. Ripe and rich with very dark fruit and savory notes. Oak, coffee, black fruits. Very fine tannin and moderate acidity. I preferred the 2016 Monsanto Il Poggio we had along with it. 2016 is better vintage, but I think it is more a matter of style than vintage.

Super pretty wine, a little heat on the nose, but really classy cherry notes, already well integrated and ready for drinking. Alcohol was a bit showy at 15% for me. Fun bottle.

Big Bottle Lunch: Too young for me but I appreciated the quality here. Medium plus body. Interesting mix of light/dark fruit elements that proper Sangiovese can display. Needs 5-10 years to fully express itself.

Wow, that has just a beautiful, non-sexed up, elegant nose to it. A little reticent of the cork pull, but with a complex array of aromas. Palate is more plush on the mid than I would have thought, with structure in the back. Youthful, needs time but the stuffing is all there.

Red fruits, savory. I expected more intensity of aromas and flavor than this.

Fine sweet nose. Wonderful complex aromas.
Almost inky, rich flavour. Should age beautifully.

Rich, ripe and plush, lots of ripe dark fruit and oak but not overripe. Generous palate, good dry extract supporting the fruit. Modern in a good way.
