Tasted at the Prince Wine Store Cotes du Rhone and beyond tasting, April 20, 2024. From the owners of the renowned Chateau de Beaucastel this is a blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah matured in a mix of oak barrels and stainless steel vats for a period of 12 months. For me, this was the standout in a lineup of about 30 wines. A lovely well fruited, approachable wine. Not a keeper but wonderful QPR for the short term.

On the nose fresh blueberry. Interesting acidity that gets well integrated once the wine can develop in the glas. Present but pleasing oak. Following the TN of HALEY1199 16.05.23. Nice easy wine with solid bang for the buck.

From 75cl, P+P. As noted here on 28.09.2023. Yes, this is a solid CdR, and good value. No, it‘s not a 90P wine. If - like VINO777 (CT TN 08.12.2023) - you don’t understand why, I suggest taking a look at the CT guide to the 100P scale. 85-86P.
I don't understand the low ratings here. I expected an average wine at $12 but this blew me away. A lot of value here and solid fruit and balance. 90 all day long.
Floral notes pop out of the glass, along with blueberry, dry tobacco and black cherry. A fresh berry attack is supported by a lively acidity and oak tannin. The finish is a mix of blueberry and lavender. Solid every-day wine.

From 75cl, good cork, P+P. As so often, Harley 1199 describes this wine very accurately (TN 16.05.2023). Forget Beaucastel, Coudoulet etc., this is just a good quaffable CdR, led by soft Grenache, and with admirable concentration and dark-fruited quality for its price class. Best after 1 hour, ephemeral but delicious in its basic—good jug wine—way. 85–86P

Bottle shared by the glass. Blended wine of garnacha tinta, monastrell -mourvèdre- and syrah aged 12 months part in barrels and another in stainless steel tanks. Intensity dominates on the nose with numerous nuances that can be condensed in aromas of black and blue berries, in powerful food such as coffee, chocolate, tobacco and in graphite ore or oil even. In this case complexity does not bring greatness. On the palate it is a structured wine, certainly tasty, with a tight acidity and a markedly alcoholic tannic finish (14.0 ABV). Personally I would never think of it as a 'petite Château de Beaucastel'. 3er time I tasted this wine with a similar results.

I like it less than the 2019 vintage we had recently. The 2020 is more fruit forward with an almost Beaujolais like red fruit cocktail of raspberries and strawberries. Less spicy and less classy than the 2019. Drink now. - 85 points
Colour: medium ruby red, legs are medium, no sediment Nose: red fruit (raspberries, Forrest strawberr, red currant, cherry), viola, anise, garique Mouth: lots of red fruit again, smooth tannins feel silky, medium acidity Finish: more fruit and acidity driven but with good tannin structure and some terroir notes already, still young though

Firm and linear, showing dark red berry fruit backed by lean brightness, good weight, better balance, and enough CdR character for current enjoyment.

Drinks better than one would expect for a $9 CdR, but it's nothing special. Basic Rhone.

Sound and easy going, commercial in style, local spice, sweet Grenache; drinkable and forgetable.
