  • As soon as the cork is pulled, the '20 Cos shows a reticent but characterful nose of boysenberry, pomegranate, and plum with a slightly spicy edge, gaining and astonishing aromatic generosity, voluptuous bordering on corpulent with an hour of air yet never becoming top-heavy. Very cool and intense in the 2020 way, dry extract and plenty of tannin but with the acid to match. By 12 hours, the pomegranate coming tot he fore with an exotic spice element and shaved pencil. Finishing well. Muscled and fat simultaneously, like a sumo wrestler. 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, 13.5% ABV on the bottle.

95-96, drinking from around age 25

  • Not decanted. From a small bottle. The 2020 Cos d'Estournel is great to drink even at this early stage. The acidity is very well integrated, making it a little fresher than other 2020s I've had so far. 93-94 pts. at the moment.

  • deep purple red color, muted nose showing only dark fruit notes, a bit of plum and pepper, on the palate roasted and overtly sweet, very primary, oak presence stinging and too strong for my tastes, also has something of a heavy feel to it, many at the event liked this very much FWIW- and as with the Pichon Lalande it is easier to approach tonight than most.

[***?, 2040+ as with the 1986 I think this is going to take a very long time to get there]

  • A gorgeous, stylish wine, here you find a series of waves packed with blackberries, black plums, black cherries, smoke, licorice, dark chocolate, soy and an array of spices. Rich, deep and intense, the wine hits all the right notes as it melds power, fruit, freshness and elegance to create an opulent, velvety, silky finish that builds and expands as it hangs with you. This is so good now, it will be hard to wait to pull a cork. But its best days are all in the future. So, wait a bit and you will be amply rewarded with an incredible wine. Drink from 2028-2060.

  • For the sake of honesty, I put my exact notes, written before the commercial releases but I do not put any comments on the wines whose price has exploded monstrously for no valid reason. Personally, I continue to buy much cheaper 2019s or much better 2016s.

2032-2050+ (April/Mai 2021) vvWine.ch

  • Deep garnet in hue, the wine shoots from glass with tobacco leaf, currants, spice box, cigar wrapper, blackberry and cassis. Elegant, fresh and vibrant, the wine is silky, long and precise. There is a cool spicy note that rides along with all the layers of soft, polished fruits on the mid-palate and in the finish. This is a refined vintage for COS. You find lower alcohol and the wine feels more energetic on the palate and in the finish, even though the pH is high at 3.9. Let it sleep for at least a decade before popping a cork. Produced from a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot, 13.46 % ABV, the harvest took place September 10 to September 24. 97-99
