The first night was basically a pnp and did not like it, thought it was too tannic but was much better the second night. It was really smooth once it opened up and a good value. So just make sure you give it enough time in the decanter.

Day 3( skipped day 2) and this is still just okay. I was overly excited when this was released but such a let down. Bedrock, O&F, DL and Ridge all down with this CoCo area. I just don’t get it. Yes, it’s a special location but it’s too soft for me. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad or flawed just underwhelming.

Nose: berry, cherry, tomato paste and tomato vine. On the palate, adds gentle bitter clove, pepper, cocoa. Medium body, medium plus complexity. Nice wine. Different and interesting. Mataro in a Zinfandel style.

I suspected this may not be my thing so I decided to open one. I was right. I prefer a denser and deeper style of this varietal. This reminded me of the Lytton Estate version I had a couple weeks back. Light, fruity, kinda juicy, purple around the edges, not much in the way of tannins and acid. A fine table wine but no wow factor. Here on day 3 it paired pretty good with some spicy food but only barely a glass left.

Disappointing, given how much I enjoy Ridge's wines and especially their Grenache Mataro Lytton Estate wine. Nothing really wrong with it, just nothing special. Light bodied, almost flat. My only bottle.

This shows a nice pure Mourvedre....sorry, Mataro character on the palate. Almost complex but only really hints of something deeper than the dark red fruits and leather. About as close to a Bandol as you're likely to get from the states but I wouldn't say its really close. The nose is more fresh fruity. A bit of glycerin on the midpalate and a disappointing lack of tannin. A solid wine but I can't help but think there is a more classic build available from this fruit.

Had with homemade pizzas. Still just a mediocre bottle to me. Big Basin 2020 Coastal Grenache drank better last night.

Better than the last bottle as it seemed deeper and darker. Still just a table wine to me.

fresh and tasty
still a bit young, like a barrel sample but fun
more fun than a Gonsalves Carignane from 2019

A nice change from the heavier reds from Ridge without going all the way to Pinot Noir lightness. Fresh, fruity with the classic Ridge spicebox.
