A year and half since last tasting. Wish I had written a detailing tasting note. This is the quintessential California Cabernet that is NOT a fruit bomb. Shows best of Stags Leap District terroir. Superior to the 2001 Dominus we had together albeit unfair comparison.

Good, not great. Took some time to open up, decanted about 1/2 hour. Best glass was the last. Tight, acidic, lots of time left. Not a lot of fruit but resolved nicely as time went on. Not a big nose. Lots of time left, no hurry, I'd try again in 3-5 yrs.

Nose: Muted nose at first. Took about 2 hours or so to finally open up fully. Cassis, black currants, cherry, lead pencil, less herbal than a Cask 23 from the same vintage consumed in the same tasting.
Palate: Medium fruit: cherry and currants, cassis, big tannins lead to a rougher than expected finish, but not terrible. Acidity intact.
Drink now, will not get better with age.

The pencil notes I loved when tasting in 2003 survived. Very nice wine to have with BBQ'd steaks. Very Good to Excellent.

Bret and bret. Blew off slightly over the evening, but still enough to ruin the wine for us.
