Cork in terrific shape with only a 3/8 inch run. Fill to above the neck. Barnyard fnose appeared initially but quickly evolving to typical Bordeaux nose of damp forest floor and especially cedar. Not much fruit on the nose but there is complex red fruit on the palate supported by sweet fully resolved tannins. Silky mouth feel and a 30 second finish peaking at 2 hours open. Fruit is plummy. Some hints of chocolate and matches well with dark chocolate. Lovely wine.

Medium ruby, translucent at the edges. Somewhat grassy, floral nose with plum and graphite to boot. Palate is smooth and suave with a good cut of acidity. Floral hints remain, with a dry, slightly bitter profile that is deliciously savoury. Moderately long but feeling a bit thin on the end. Still present but very smooth and integrated tannins. A delicious and satisfying aged claret. Good for food, but not bursting with flavour as it might have been ten years ago. Still, a pleasure.

Dark centre but light showing through. Orange appearing at the rim. Well settled sediment in the bottle. Slight smell of mustiness. Smooth, but thinning, rather dry finish. Residual richness, but a ghost of its former glory. Lesson - drink too young, not too late !

Black centre, red rim. Heavy sediment on bottle. Dry, slightly musty, past its best. Tannic finish. Fruit going fast. Enjoyable but richness and smoothness are fading. Missing the St Julien glow. Disappointing. But still drank the whole bottle with supper !

Dark plum, pale edge, sediment well settled on the bottle but quite a bit visible in glass, almost like a film - very fine. Great nose of leather and forest. Quite dry in the mouth but scents of violet and fruit linger. Lasts on the palate for at least a minute. Didn't cope well with main course (too delicate) but great with cheddar and biscuits, so finishing it on its own. Very different from before. Interesting, but on the wane. Drink up, and trust the recommended window in future. Final impression is fruit, but teeth feel the tannin. Lovely.

Classy well aged bordeaux which almost resembles a pauillac. Rounded plumpish currant fruits, pencil shavings , capsicums and tobacco hints. Very fine tannins. Smooth classic finish.

I like Claret. Capital C, lithe, 12.5%, old-school Claret. And for a rainy wash-out disaster of a vintage, this was shockingly satisfying. Copybook Barton without the extra depth, complexity, and drive of the top vintages but still plenty of blackcurrant accented by cedar, leather, mineral - just lovely. Good balance on the palate, positive finish. This bottle still had energy and vigor. I really like how this was handled.

Immediate aroma of peppers. Decanted. Sediment early, so filtered remains into glass. Immediate taste enjoyable. Not huge. Chocolate with no harshness. Some development 90 mins later with further softening. Earthy touch - almost like Burgundy (Vougeot?) - and medium-long finish. Went well with pork loin. Warm, lovely. Don't see the problem here. Having remnants with NCIS at 3-4 hours. Still improving. Happy.

Still dark, but brick at rim. Blackcurrant nose with vanilla hints. Full and smooth in the mouth, but a slightly harsh finish and thinning. Touch of earth at the end. Drink up.

Better than the last bottle, even though the cork was all dark. Same basic impression as last bottle, but more vibrant and with better tannins and more fruit notes. Nice experience indeed.

For sure past its prime, but by no means off. Quite dark blackberry color. The nose still intriguing with mature cassis notes, cedar tree, herbs and spices. Medium bodied, palate a bit diluted, but still delicate and pleasurable. Finish rather short, though. Must drink the last bottle soon.

Smooth and fruity, not too much tannin and is clearly not a wine that will last for much longer, needs to be drunk now. Enjoyable if not a barnstormer.

Bottle was stored for 12 years at 20 - 28°C (68 - 82°F). No fruit left. Old tannin and high acidity. Oxidised. A carcass. The wine was still drinkable, but not pleasurable.

San Francisco Bay Area Leoville Barton Vertical (Moraga): Medium ruby red. Faint notes of tobacco and earth, but this wine doesn't deliver much on the palate. Hollow and a bit thin, with drying tannins on the finish, this wine is not so unattractive perhaps as some have made it sound (although other tasters did pick up some distinct green notes), but it is difficult to say much favorable beyond the fact that it could be enjoyable with the right foods.

Time to drink the last bottle of this. Has developed too far in last few years, most of fruit gone now. Past its prime vs. bottle had in 2001. However, cork saturated 3/4 of the way through, this bottle bought at auction, so storage may have been an issue.

Tasting note from memory. Time to drink up any remaining stock. Although the 92 Leoville was drinking well three years ago, it has degraded somewhat since. Levels of Brett were higher than I would find acceptable. At first, it was in the background - with some of the leather and fruit components up front, but after 45 minutes, those subsided and the wine was rather undrinkable (to me).

Occasional tasting group: Some better Bordeaux. (By me and ASa @ JBr): Smoky, oak, acidity and butter in the bouquet. Full bodied, firm structure, bitter, black currants in the taste. In the aftertaste a little sweetness, acidity, but overall juicy. A very good effort considering the vintage.

drank with pork chops found in the cellar - not sure where it came from. tannins clearly softened, good finish, color only slightly brown, little bit of "sweet" taste on finish very nice
